Episode 39: Qui Shih Huang Ti and the Elixir of Life

The camera winds and twists its way through a thick jungle of strange and exotic plants. After a few wrong turns, it finally stops in front of an ancient Mayan temple. At the base of the temple, a giant stone head sits. Suddenly, the head’s eyes light up and it begins to speak:

“Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth!” These words appear on the screen. “With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!”

A middle-aged man wearing a denim shirt and blue jeans swings in on a rope. He drops down and runs up the Steps of Knowledge, microphone in hand.

“Thank you! Thank you, everybody! Nice to see everyone again! It’s good to see you again, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple: Rebirth. The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legends behind each of these newly discovered treasures in his Temple…which one are we gonna hear about today, Olmec?”

“The legend of Qui Shih Huang Ti and the Elixir of Life,” Olmec replies.

“Oh, Chin-Jee-Wong-Dee and the Elixir of Life,” Kirk says, pronouncing the name the best that he can. “Well, the legend is set, and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the Elixir of Life—will it be:

“The Red Jaguars?” The camera zooms in on each team as they are introduced.
“The Blue Barracudas?
“The Green Monkeys?
“The Orange Iguanas?
“The Purple Parrots?
“Or the Silver Snakes?

“They’ll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests, but in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, they’ve got to cross the Moat, and Olmec will tell us how they’ll have to do it today…”

Olmec begins to explain the Moat Crossing:
“Before you, a large tree has fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player from each team will begin walking across the tree until they reach the other side. Once you’re safely across, your partner will cross in the same way. You may use the branches and roots of the tree as handholds; however, if you fall or if a knee touches the tree, you must go back and start again. Once both players reach the other side, run over and hit the gong.” Kirk hits the Silver Snakes’ gong to demonstrate. “The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round!”

“Well, we’d better get started,” Kirk says. “Hey teams, are you ready?”
All six teams scream and cheer in response.
“Olmec, are you ready?” Kirk asks.
“Let’s rock,” Olmec replies.
“Okay, then,” Kirk says. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

All the teams’ first members rush out onto the fallen tree. The Red Jaguars’ boy and Silver Snakes’ girl fall off trying to cross, but everyone else successfully crosses, using the limbs as handholds. “Those limbs are there for a reason—they’re really helpful trying to hang on to ‘em!” Kirk explains. The Red Jaguars’ boy makes it about halfway across before falling off yet again, and the Orange Iguanas’ girl also hits the drink. The Silver Snakes’ girl makes it across as the Green Monkeys, Blue Barracudas and Purple Parrots each get their second player across—they hit their gongs in that order. “One, two, three teams—only room for one more!” Kirk narrates. The Red Jaguars’ boy falls off the tree yet again, but so does the Orange Iguanas’ girl. The Silver Snakes’ boy makes it across, though, and he hits his team’s gong to end the episode’s Moat Crossing.

“That’s it—our four teams, right there!” Kirk exclaims as he rushes over and stands beside the Silver Snakes. “Silver Snakes had a little trouble staying on there at first, but they did it, and going on to the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes…and the Purple Parrots…” Kirk briefly pauses between each team’s name to allow some applause. “…and the Green Monkeys…and the Blue Barracudas! The Red Jaguars and the Orange Iguanas did great, too, but didn’t quite make it. That’s okay, because they get a great gift for trying, and here’s what it is!” They receive a $50 gift certificate from FYE.

Kirk and the four remaining teams are standing atop the Steps of Knowledge. “As the quest continues, it’s now time for Olmec to tell us about Chi-Chin-Wong-Ti and the Elixir of Life. But pay attention, teams, because your knowledge of the legend can and will bring you a step closer to Olmec’s Temple.”

Olmec begins to tell the story:
“Perhaps the greatest ruler in the history of China was its first Emperor, Qui Shih Huang Ti. He ended ongoing war in China by uniting it into one empire, built the legendary Great Wall of China, and made life more civilized by introducing things like paved roads and currency. However, in his last years on earth, Qui became uneasy. One day, he called his chief sorcerer, Xu Fu, into his throne room.
“‘Xu Fu, I’m worried about my empire.’
“‘But your emperorship, your empire is flourishing beautifully, and your subjects love you!’
“‘Precisely—who will rule this empire when I’m gone?’
“‘Well, I...uh...’
“‘My point exactly! I need to rule China forever! That’s why I’m entrusting you to find the Elixir of Life!’
“Many people in China had heard of the fabled Elixir of Life, which would grant people eternal life, but no one knew where to find it. Xu Fu set out on his first voyage to find the fabled Elixir in 219 BC. With a crew of 5,000 people, he tried to find the legendary Penglai Mountain, where the Elixir was allegedly located. When he returned to China nine years later empty-handed, he set out via a different route. However, he never returned. Some people think that he died on the voyage, but they may be wrong. Legend has it that Xu Fu set ground in a place with flat, rolling plains and wide rivers. There, a native approached him and his crew.
“‘Welcome to Penglai Mountain,’ the man said, and gave Xu Fu a small bottle filled with the fabled Elixir of Life. This bottle has somehow found its way to the Temple. Your quest is to find the bottle containing the Elixir of Life and bring it back here!”

“Whoa!” Kirk says. “Okay, so tell us, where is the Elixir of Life?”

“The bottle containing the Elixir of Life can be found in the Magician’s Chamber,” Olmec replies. The camera zooms in on the tiny glass bottle containing green liquid sitting on one of the pedestals in the room, in front of one of the hats, before fading back to Kirk.

“Teams, you’re now standing on the Steps of Knowledge,” Kirk explains. “In a moment, Olmec’s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you’re right, you’ll move down to the next level, but if you’re wrong or run out of time, the other teams will get a chance to answer.” Kirk begins descending the Steps. “The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec’s Temple. Olmec, we’re now ready for your first question.”

Olmec begins:
“Was Qui Shih Huang Ti the emperor of: China, Russia, or—”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “China?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Blue Barracudas step down to the second level.
“Blue Barracudas, step down,” Kirk instructs. “Next question.”

“What did Qui Shih Huang Ti do to the Chinese empire: unite it, divide it, or ruin it?”
After a few seconds, the Green Monkeys ring in. “Unite it?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Green Monkeys join the Blue Barracudas on the second step.
“Green Monkeys step down now,” Kirk observes. “We still have a long way to go—next question.”

“Did Qui Shih Huang Ti build: the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, or Stonehenge?”
The Blue Barracudas ring in. “The…Great Wall of China.”
“That…is correct,” Olmec replies. The Blue Barracudas proceed to the next-to-last level.
“All right—the Blue Barracudas are now only one step away,” Kirk narrates. “But remember, we’re looking for two teams. Next question, Olmec.”

“Which of the following did Qui Shih Huang Ti not introduce to China: paved roads, medical care, or currency?”
After a few seconds of inactivity, the Green Monkeys ring in. “Medical…care?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Green Monkeys join the Blue Barracudas on the next-to-last step.
“Now the Green Monkeys are only one step away,” Kirk says. “Still time for the other two teams, though—next question, Olmec.”

“What job did Xu Fu have under Qui: chief advisor, chief sorcerer, or chief justice?”
The Silver Snakes ring in. “Chief sorcerer?”
“That is correct,” Olmec responds. The Silver Snakes step onto the second level.
“All right—the Silver Snakes are on the board now,” Kirk observes. “We still need two teams—next question, please.”

“Did Qui want to: please his subjects, rule China forever, or—”
The Green Monkeys ring in. “Rule China forever…?”
“That…is correct!” Olmec replies. The Green Monkeys step to the bottom level and high-ten one another.
“Green Monkeys are our first team for the Temple Games!” Kirk comments. “We still need one more team. Who’s it gonna be: the Blue Barracudas, the Purple Parrots, or the Silver Snakes? Olmec, next question.”

“According to our legend, if you drink the Elixir of Life, will you: become rich, live forever, or fly?”
The Purple Parrots ring in. “Live forever…?”
“That is correct,” Olmec replies. The Purple Parrots step down one level.
“Purple Parrots are on the board now,” Kirk exclaims as the audience cheers. “It’s anybody’s game at this point—next question, Olmec.”

“What was the name of the mountain where the Elixir of Life was supposedly located: Mount Olympus, Penglai Mountain, or Space Mountain?”
The Silver Snakes ring in. “Uh…Pen…Pen-guy Mountain?”
“That…is correct,” Olmec hesitantly replies. The Silver Snakes step down to the penultimate level.
“Only one step away are the Silver Snakes now,” Kirk observes. “Anything can happen, still—next question.”

“How many voyages did Xu Fu make trying to find the Elixir of Life—”
The Blue Barracudas ring in early. “Uh…two?”
“That…is…correct!” Olmec booms after a slight pause. The Blue Barracudas step down to the bottom as the Green Monkeys make room for their Temple Game adversaries.

“We’ve got our two teams for the Temple Games!” Kirk shouts as he runs over and stands between them. “They are the Blue Barracudas, and the Green Monkeys! Purple Parrots and Silver Snakes did great, too; come on down here, guys. It was very close, anybody’s ballgame there toward the end. We’re not sending you all home empty-handed—here’s what we’ve got for you!” They receive Pokémon Ranger for the Nintendo DS Lite.

Kirk is now seen standing between the two advancing teams. “These two teams will go head-to-head for the right to enter Olmec’s Temple right after this!”

The camera flies over Kirk and zooms in on a group of orange silk lilies “growing” on the edge of the Ledges as the title appears onscreen, and we go to a commercial.

We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the two remaining teams.

“Welcome back,” he says. “Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest…

“So let’s hear it for Daniel and Jennifer of the Blue Barracudas!” The audience claps for the green-eyed girl with long auburn hair tied back in a ponytail and the shorter brown-eyed boy with frizzy black hair.

“And Chris and Brooke of the Green Monkeys!” The audience claps for the pretty blonde-haired girl with bright green eyes and the tall blue-eyed boy with messy black hair.

“All right, you guys, are you ready?” Kirk asks.

“Yeah!” they reply.

“Good—go get ready for the Temple Games,” Kirk instructs. “Now, in the Temple Games, our teams are competing for…” Kirk retrieves a Pendant of Life from his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “…Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those Pendants to protect them from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple. There are three Temple Games, and Olmec, why don’t you tell us about the first one…”

“Why don’t I just do that?” Olmec replies. The black lights under Olmec come on and he begins to explain the first Game:

“In his historic reign, Emperor Qui Shih Huang Ti built the massive Great Wall of China, which spans over 400 miles across the country. Luckily for you, the wall you’ll be building will be much smaller. When Kirk gives the signal, place a brick on your head and attempt to climb up the slippery slope. When you reach the top, slide back down and place the brick along the edge of the wall. Then climb back up the slippery hill to where you began and try again. The first player to assemble all four bricks, or…the player who assembles the most bricks at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”

“Time to build some walls,” Kirk says. “Set the clock for sixty seconds, please!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner with a loud gong sound effect. “On your mark, get set, GO!”

Jennifer and Brooke each grab a brick and stick it to their Velcro-coated helmet. Both girls then begin to climb over their soap-covered plastic “hill”. Brooke reaches the top of her hill first, and slides down to the end of the track to place her first brick on the designated line. Jennifer slides down and places her first brick about three seconds later. Both girls have some trouble climbing back over the hill. Brooke makes it back to the starting point first and grabs her second brick with about 40 seconds left, then begins clambering back up the slippery hill. Jennifer grabs her second brick and starts climbing her side of the hill about five seconds later. Brooke slides down the other side of the hill and places her second brick with 21 seconds left, and begins to head back. Jennifer is right behind her, placing her second brick with 17 seconds left. Brooke makes it back up the slippery hill, grabs her third brick, and scrambles back up the hill as Jennifer is sliding back down the hill from the other side. Brooke places her third brick with five seconds remaining, but Jennifer can’t make it up the hill before time expires.

“Okay, that’s it!” Kirk says, running back onscreen. “Slip-sliding away in that one…let’s see how we did over here.” He walks over to the other side of the hill with the players. “Looks like the Blue Barracudas got two bricks, and…the Green Monkeys got three bricks! The Green Monkeys get the half Pendant of Life!” Kirk allows some applause from the audience. “The Blue Barracudas can catch up in this next game, though, worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2…”

Olmec begins:
“Qui Shih Huang Ti united China into one huge empire, but to do so, he had to ward off invading armies from numerous warring tribes from all over Asia. Before you stand four invading warriors. When Kirk gives the signal, load your slingshot and shoot a ball at one of the warriors. The first player to knock over all four warriors, or…the player that knocks down the most warriors in sixty seconds…wins.”

“It’s a full-scale invasion,” Kirk says. “Let’s set the clock for sixty seconds!” The clock slams down in the bottom right-hand corner. “All right—teams ready, aim, FIRE!”

While Daniel misses his first shot, Chris manages to knock over his left middle target with the first ball he fires. Daniel knocks over the same-positioned target with his next shot, while Chris misses. Both boys manage to knock over a target on their third shot, keeping the score dead-even. No one scores for a while until about 35 seconds are left, when Chris knocks over his leftmost target. Balls go flying everywhere for the rest of the game. Daniel hits his rightmost target with six seconds remaining, but it only teeters and doesn’t fall over. Time runs out soon afterwards.

“Okay, that’s it!” Kirk says as he appears back onscreen. “Hold your fire, guys! Come over here, let’s count it up, see how we did—the Green Monkeys knocked over three of their targets, and…the Blue Barracudas knocked over two! The Green Monkeys get the half Pendant of Life!” Kirk pauses to allow for applause. “Now, the Green Monkeys have one Pendant; the Blue Barracudas don’t have any yet. But that could all change in the third and final Temple Game. It’s worth a full Pendant of Life. Olmec, tell us about it, please…”

Olmec begins to explain the final Temple Game:
“When he knew his life was drawing to an end, Qui Shih Huang Ti sent his sorcerer, Xu Fu, out on a journey to find the fabled Elixir of Life. He never returned with it, but in this game, you’ll have a chance to do what Xu Fu did not. When Kirk gives the signal, propel your boat off the dock and sail toward your destination. Once you reach it, climb out and load the Elixir of Life into your boat. Then turn around and sail back. If you touch the water, you must go back and begin again. The first team to make it back to the dock, or…the team that’s further along at the end of sixty seconds…wins!”

“Our teams are sailing off in search of the Elixir of Life,” Kirk remarks. “Let’s get started—set the clock for sixty seconds, please!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner, ready to go. “Just let me get out of the way first, so I don’t become “boat-kill”…on your mark, get set, GO! Bon voyage, everybody!”

Both teams propel themselves off the dock and careen toward their destination. The Blue Barracudas make it there first, but the Green Monkeys are hot on their heels. Both teams climb out of their boat and place the relatively large bottle positioned at the destination into their boat with about 45 seconds left. Both teams then turn the boat around, but the Blue Barracudas are slightly faster at this than the Green Monkeys. They all then pull their way back to the dock. The Blue Barracudas manage to make it back first, with a full 18 seconds to spare.

“All right, that’s it!” Kirk exclaims as he runs back onscreen and joins the Blue Barracudas on the dock; the Green Monkeys appear on his other side a few seconds later. “The Blue Barracudas made it back to the dock first, so they get the full Pendant of Life, giving them two—no, wait, that gives them one; the Green Monkeys also have one. We’ve got a tie! Bring in the tiebreaker pedestal!”

A spotter wheels in the tiebreaker pedestal, and the teams position themselves behind it. Kirk stands off to the side and explains the rules.

“All right, here’s what’s gonna happen. In a minute, Olmec will ask you one final question. If you think you know the answer, I want you to hit the gong in front of you. You’ll have three seconds to answer, and I must take your first response. The first team to buzz in and answer correctly is gonna be going inside Olmec’s Temple in search of the Elixir of Life. All clear?” The teams nod in response. “All right…Olmec, what is your final question?”

Olmec begins to ask the final question of the day:
“Like the Elixir of Life, what legendary spring was also said to grant eternal life: Palm Springs, the Fountain of Youth—”

The Green Monkeys ring in before Olmec finishes giving the choices. “The Fountain of Youth,” Brooke says.

“That…is…correct!” Olmec booms.

“The Green Monkeys are going to the Temple!” Kirk exclaims as Chris and Brooke high-five one another in excitement. “Blue Barracudas, you guys were great, too—it came down to the wire and the very last question. We’ve got a great gift for you guys for being such good sports, and here’s what it is!” They receive a backpack from Outdoor Products.

As the prize disappears off-screen, Kirk is now seen standing beside the winning team. “We’ll see if the Green Monkeys can make it through Olmec’s Temple and retrieve the Elixir of Life—right after this!”

The camera pans in on the Magician’s Chamber and zooms in on the tiny bottle containing the Elixir of Life as the title appears onscreen, and we go to a commercial.

We return from the break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.

“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “The Green Monkeys have shown that they are worthy, and now they have the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec will give them some information to help them retrieve the Elixir of Life…”

Olmec begins to explain the layout as the camera gives us a first-person tour of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Rope Labyrinth! Maneuver through the ropes, and climb into the Magician’s Chamber. Pull the rabbit from the correct hat, and a door may open into the Clockwork Room. Set the clocks for the correct time, and pass into the Room…of the Golden Torches! Light the correct torch, and open the door to the SHRIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest…but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter…the Snake Pit. Place the snakes in the hollow stump, and you’ll gain entry to the Atlantean Altar. Uncover the tile that lets in the waters of Atlantis, then…crawl through the Labyrinth, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate! The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 1 Pendant in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”

“I am,” says Chris, raising his hand.

“Very well, Chris,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gates into the Temple and make your way toward the Elixir of Life. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Brooke’s turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Elixir of Life, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Elixir of Life in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”

• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a DVD player from Sony.
• If they can grab the Elixir of Life within three minutes, they’ll also receive a bicycle from Mongoose.
• And if they can bring the Elixir of Life out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio.

“All right, sounds like a fair…share of prizes,” Kirk says. “Let’s see if they can bring back the Elixir of Life and claim it all. Chris, let’s get you out in front here…set the clock for three minutes!” The clock slams down in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen with a loud gong sound effect.

“Olmec, please lower your gate.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.

“On your mark,” Kirk begins, “get set, GO!”

Chris darts up the steps, clutching his team’s only Pendant. He enters the Crypt, pulling all three books before the door to the Rope Labyrinth opens. However, the first TEMPLE GUARD jumps out and grabs him before he can leave the room (2:53). “Oh, Temple Guard, right off the bat!” Kirk narrates. “But he’s got a Pendant—the only Pendant his team has!” Chris enters the Rope Labyrinth, and immediately starts to head down. He reaches the door for the Atlantean Altar, where he hits the actuator, opening said door (2:35). He progresses into the room, where he heads to the back and starts pulling the tiles off the wall. Six tiles are pulled off the back wall before he finally reaches the second one from the top on the left-hand side, which floods the room with blue light when he uncovers it, and opens the doors to both the Snake Pit and the Clockwork Room (2:23). “Okay, that did it—now where’s he headed?” Kirk narrates. Chris enters the Snake Pit, but before he can do any work, out jumps the second TEMPLE GUARD (2:17).

“Oh, second Temple Guard—go, Brooke!” Kirk instructs, and Brooke begins trotting up the stairs. She follows Chris’s path exactly, and finally reaches the Snake Pit (1:59). She finds two snakes at the front of the room, and places them in the hollow stump at the back of the room. She finds two more near the stump, and places them inside it as well. She finds the final two snakes and places them in the stump—but nothing happens (1:30). Brooke waits around for a few seconds, but no doors open. “No doors are gonna open—looks like she’s gonna gave to go back!” Kirk narrates. Brooke walks over to the door that leads to the Dark Forest and checks to see if it’s open. Sure enough, it’s shut tight (1:18). “That door’s not gonna open—you’re gonna have to head back the way you came!” Kirk tries to explain. Brooke reluctantly begins making her way back to the Atlantean Altar, where she looks around for a path to take. She sees the open door to the Clockwork Room, and starts climbing the ladder into the room (1:05). “She’s right under the Elixir of Life,” Kirk narrates as Brooke starts to align all the clocks in the room to 12 o’clock. “She still has no Pendants left, so if she meets another Temple Guard, it’s over!” The camera shows Chris on the ground, clapping and cheering Brooke on. When the camera cuts back to Brooke, she is seen setting the final clock in the room for 12 o’clock, and the door to the Room of the Golden Torches opens (0:50). She darts into the room and grabs the torch-lighter from the back of the room, but from out of nowhere, the third TEMPLE GUARD jumps out (0:45).

“Gah, the third Temple Guard!” Kirk laments. “I was hoping that wouldn’t happen; they were just one room away from getting the Elixir of Life. This was one of the toughest Temples I’ve ever seen. But anyway, they still get the DVD player for making it this far, and at least they leave with smiles on their faces. Still, we’ve gotta get out of here. We’ll see you next time, though, and until then, remember—it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye!”

Kirk and Chris start to chat as the credits start to roll. Close-ups are seen of several parts of the set, including a small green-and-pink plant next to the Dungeon, the gongs on the edge of the Moat, and a close-up of the Ledges. Brooke emerges from the Temple, and she, Kirk and Chris wave to the camera as the credits finish rolling.

If I could sum up this Temple Run in one word, it would be “cheap”. The players were made to think that the longer way around was the correct way to go, only to have the producers pull a fast one on them by having the actual path to the artifact to be ridiculously simple.

Chris was a fair player. He was quick to hand over his Pendant in the Crypt, and made okay time with what he did. He was eventually taken out in the Snake Pit with 2:17 to go.

Brooke was an okay player, but she had one Achilles’ heel—she had a one-track mind. When she completed the objective in the Snake Pit, no doors opened. Thinking she had to pull the door open herself, she spent almost a full twenty seconds waiting around for the door to the Dark Forest to open. She finally did backtrack back to the Clockwork Room, where she got back on track to the artifact. A team is usually considered stupid if they take the direct path to the artifact. The ironic thing is that in this episode, the direct path to the artifact was the correct path to the artifact, and if the team hadn’t have veered off it, this would have been a win. Some days are diamonds, but this day was a stone.

Notes and Trivia: The official title of this episode is “Qui Shih Huang Ti and the Elixir of Life”. However, the actual historical figure’s name is spelled “Qin Shi Huang Ti” or “Qin Shih Huang-Ti”. This is the second time a historical figure’s name has been misspelled/mispronounced by Legends (the first, of course, being Granny Nanny, whom they called “Grandy Nanny”).

The first Temple Game in this episode seems to be derived from a game from the old kid’s game show Animal Planet ZooVenture, where the kids have to make their way up a slippery plastic-coated “hill” to get several items from one point to another. However, it’s only one of three episodes that include this Temple Game.

Brooke is one of only two players to complete the Snake Pit’s objective, and one of only five to enter the room in the first place.

I must say, even though the Temple Run was a terrible loss, the outcome was still quite creative, and the new Temple Game idea and legend were also very nice.  It was a great read, even though it might've been a frustrating episode to watch.

I have to ask, though: Did my fanfics somehow inspire the path they had to take? :wink:
