We return from the break and see Kirk standing in front of the Temple with one team on either side of him.
“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let’s meet our teams, what do ya say?
“On the Green Monkeys, we have Amy; she plays softball and she wants to be a pediatrician, and her partner is Samuel; he plays soccer and he also likes to work on cars with his dad—let’s hear it for the Green Monkeys!” The audience claps for the short girl with blue eyes and curly blonde hair and the tall, brown-eyed, brown-haired boy.
“And on the Blue Barracudas, we have Jennifer; she says she likes all kinds of sports, but especially basketball, and she also likes to cook, and her partner T.J. also likes to play basketball and he wants to be a lawyer—how ‘bout a round of applause for the basketball-playing Blue Barracudas?” The audience applauds for the tall, blue-eyed girl with her long auburn hair in a ponytail and the equally tall African-American boy with short black hair.
“All right, is everybody ready to play?” Kirk asks.
“Yeah!” they reply.
“Okay, man your battle stations! In these teams—games, our teams are competing for…” Kirk retrieves a Pendant of Life from his pouch and holds it up to the camera. “…Pendants of Life. The winning team will need the Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through Olmec’s Temple. There are three Temple Games. Olmec, tell us about the first one, please…”
“Since you asked so nicely,” Olmec replies. The black lights under Olmec come on and he begins to explain the game:
“Before Ernest Shackleton set out for Antarctica on the Endurance, he had to pack enough food to last he and his crew for many months. You are about to help gather some food for Ernest’s voyage. When Kirk gives the signal, run around, grab a piece of food, come back, and place it in your bin. Then run back, grab another piece of food and do it again. The first player to retrieve all the food, or…the player who retrieves the most food at the end of thirty seconds…wins.”
“Something tells me Shackleton had to stockpile more food than this,” Kirk remarks. “Let’s put thirty seconds on the clock!” The clock appears, all set to go. “On your marks, get set, GO!”
Amy is fast, but she has a terrible time getting the rotating lever to lift her high enough to grab anything. Jennifer, in addition to being fast, is very consistent, and develops a better rhythm of jumping up to get the plastic food. Jennifer has noticeably more food by the time the clock reaches zero.
“Okay, that’s it!” Kirk shouts as he runs back onscreen. He stands between the two levers. “Everybody can stop spinning now…if they can stop! Let’s count it up, see how we did…” He kneels beside the bins. “Blue Barracudas got one, two, three, four, five, six pieces of food, and over on the Green Monkeys…let’s see, we have one, two, three, four pieces of food! That means the Green Monkeys get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds. “The Blue Barracudas are ahead, but the Green Monkeys can still catch up and then some. This next game is also worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2…”
Olmec begins:
“As Ernest and his crew rowed along on their way to South Georgia Island, they were constantly battered by chunks of ice. In this game, you may see what that’s like. When Kirk gives the signal, run out, grab one of the supplies, come back and place it in your bin. Then run back and grab the next one. Along the way, you must avoid the swinging chunks of ice—if you’re hit, you must go back and try again. The first player to retrieve all four supplies or…the player that retrieves the most supplies at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”
“Ice bowling,” Kirk remarks. “Let’s put sixty seconds on the clock!” The clock appears onscreen. “On your mark, get set, GO!”
Samuel and T.J. both retrieve their first supply, a small backpack, on the first try, and they both place it in their basket at about the same time. On his second trip, T.J. gets hit by the sandbag, but Samuel manages to avoid getting hit to bring back the second item, a shovel, with about 45 seconds to go. T.J. manages to get the small shovel on his third try, but Samuel gets hit with a sandbag. The teams go back and forth getting hit and retrieving items, but T.J. finally manages to bring back the last item, a piece of netting, with six seconds left on the clock.
“That’s it!” Kirk shouts as he runs back onscreen. “The Blue Barracudas got all their supplies first, so the Blue Barracudas get the half Pendant of Life!” The audience applauds. “So now, the Blue Barracudas have one full Pendant, the Green Monkeys don’t have any yet. Now, it’s time for the third and final Temple Game. It’s worth one whole Pendant of Life. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #3…”
Olmec begins to explain the final Temple Game:
“Once Ernest had gotten enough supplies from South Georgia Island, he turned around and sailed back to his crew. Fortunately for you, the voyage you’re about to make is considerably shorter. When Kirk gives the signal, propel your boat off the dock toward your destination. Once you reach it, climb out and load the supplies into the boat. When you finish, climb back in the boat, turn it around and sail back. The first team to step back onto the dock or…the team that’s further along at the end of sixty seconds…wins.”
“This is for the Temple,” Kirk remarks. “Sixty seconds on the clock, please!” The clock appears, all ready to go. “I’m gonna get out of the way here…on your mark, get set, GO! Bon voyage!”
Both teams push off the dock, running into one another in the process, but they both manage to reach the destination with about 30 seconds left. The Blue Barracudas quickly load up the shovel and rolled-up sleeping bag placed at the destination, but the Green Monkeys are quite slow in comparison. Amy and Samuel do successfully load up their supplies, though by this time, the Blue Barracudas are already about halfway back to the dock. They reach the dock with about seven seconds to spare.
“All right, that’s it!” Kirk shouts. He runs back onscreen and steps onto the dock beside Jennifer and T.J. “The Blue Barracudas successfully made it back first, and they get the half Pendant…or the full Pendant of Life! That means the Blue Barracudas have two Pendants, the Green Monkeys didn’t score—the Blue Barracudas are goin’ to the Temple!” Jennifer and T.J. hug one another as the Green Monkeys appear on the dock and congratulate them. “Great sportsmanship by the other team—that’s what I like! But these two aren’t goin’ home empty-handed. We have a great gift for ‘em, and here’s what it is!” They receive a tent from Outdoor Products.
As the prize disappears off-screen, Kirk is seen standing beside the winning team. “Now, we’ll see if the Blue Barracudas can make it through Olmec’s Temple and retrieve the Rudder from the HMS Endurance, and we’ll see right after this!”
The camera pans in on the Temple and zooms in on the Rudder as the title appears onscreen, and we fade to a commercial.
