We return from the break and find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.
“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” he says. “The Green Monkeys have proven themselves worthy, and now they’ve earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Surviving Blueprints of Edward Teller…”
Olmec begins to explain the layout as the camera gives us a first-person tour of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Rope Labyrinth! Maneuver through the ropes, and climb into the Sculptor’s Studio. Smash the hollow sculptures to find the key that will lead you into the Chamber…of the Sacred Markers. Match the symbols on the right to those on the left, and pass into the Inventor’s Workshop. Spin the wheel to operate the machine, and open the door to the SHRIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest…but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter…the Ancient Cave. Press yourself against the correct cave painting, and you’ll gain entry to the Owl’s Nest! Find the special white owl, and attach it to its proper nest, then…crawl through the Labyrinth, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate! The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 1½ Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”
“I am,” says Amy, raising her hand.
“Very well, Amy,” Olmec replies. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gates into the Temple and make your way toward the Surviving Blueprints. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Dalton’s turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the Temple is the other half of your Pendant. If you can find it and you’re carrying the other half, you’ll receive an extra life. If you can reach the Blueprints, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Surviving Blueprints of Edward Teller in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”
• Just for making it this far, they’ll get an MP3 player.
• If they can grab the Surviving Blueprints within three minutes, they’ll also receive a sports package from Outdoor Products.
• And if they can bring the Surviving Blueprints out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to Monterrey, California.
“All right, the Blueprints are right up there in the Inventor’s Workshop—let’s see if they can make it there and then make it back with ‘em,” Kirk remarks. “Mouthpieces in, you two—let’s set the clock for three minutes!” The clock slams down in the bottom corner of the screen, ready to go.
“Olmec, lower your gate, if you please.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.
“Looks like we’re ready,” Kirk says as Amy is shown positioned at the starting line. “On your mark, get set, GO!”
Amy jogs up the stairs, clutching her team’s only full Pendant of Life. She soon disappears behind Olmec and slides down into the Ledges, where she begins crawling through the outcroppings in the room (2:54). After a few seconds of hitting actuators to the Rope Labyrinth only to meet with locked doors, she hits the actuator to go up, and the door opens into the Crypt (2:42). She climbs up into the room and pulls all three books before opening the door to the Rope Labyrinth—however, the first TEMPLE GUARD jumps out from hiding, scaring her (2:30). “Oh, a Temple Guard!” Kirk says. “But she’s got a Pendant—her team’s only full Pendant!” Amy hands over her Pendant of Life after a few seconds, and the Temple Guard disappears back behind the secret door as she proceeds into the Rope Labyrinth. After a few seconds, she reaches the other side of the room, where she hits the actuator for the Chamber of the Sacred Markers. The door opens, so she proceeds into the room (2:12). “All right—now she’s just one room away from those Blueprints!” Kirk narrates. Amy looks around the room before locating two tiles on the stage-left wall. She looks around some more until she finds the third tile on the opposite wall, and then gets to work placing them correctly. She does so, but the door to the Inventor’s Workshop doesn’t open—only the one downward into the Owl’s Nest, so she begins climbing down into this room instead (1:52). “Oh, the Inventor’s Workshop won’t open—she’ll have to take the long way, looks like!” Kirk says. Amy climbs down into the Owl’s Nest, but the second TEMPLE GUARD ambushes her as she steps off the ladder (1:45).
“Oh, second Temple Guard got her! Go, Dalton!” Kirk shouts. Dalton takes off, following Amy’s path precisely, including the unnecessary trip into the Ledges. When he reaches the Rope Labyrinth, he bypasses the open door to the Chamber, instead choosing to go down to the now-open door to the Owl’s Nest, picking up the hidden half-Pendant on the actuator along the way (1:25). “Oh, there’s that half Pendant!” Kirk narrates. “He may need that later—we’ll see!” Dalton enters the Owl’s Nest and begins searching through the mass of stuffed owls at the back of the room until he finds the white one. He begins placing the owl on the nests in the room, trying three incorrect nests until he finally finds the right one, opening the door to the Ancient Cave (1:02). “All right—now that leads him into the Dark Cave—the Ancient Cave!” Kirk narrates as Dalton enters the room. “Now he’s right under the Lost Blueprints!” Dalton heads to the back of the room and gets to work aligning his body with the stage-left cave painting, but nothing happens (0:48). “Try the middle one!” Kirk shouts, and Dalton does so, but again, nothing happens (0:40). “Try the last one!” Kirk exclaims, and Dalton heads over to the stage-right cave painting, and after a little difficulty, manages to press all three actuators. Sounds like those of drums beating and cavemen grunting echo throughout the room, and the door to the Dark Forest opens (0:30). “That’s it—now he’s headed into the Dark Forest!” Kirk shouts as Dalton enters the room. “Now he’s gonna have to stick his hand in the trees—hopefully there aren’t any Temple Spirits in there!” Dalton sticks his hand in the stage-left tree and feels around, but comes out empty-handed (0:23). He tries the stage-right tree, but before he can stick his hand in it, the tree’s arms grab him and the TEMPLE SPIRIT in the tree shouts “COME HERE!” (0:17). “Oh, that tree’s a Temple Guard!” Kirk shouts. “But he found the other half of his Pendant, so he can keep going!” After Dalton places his two Pendant halves in the hole of the tree, he forgoes looking for a key, breaking down the wall and entering the Dungeon (0:05). He makes a beeline for the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage, but time expires before he can enter it.
“Oh, they ran out of time!” laments Kirk. “This was a tough Temple; they had to take the long way around. That’s okay, though; they still get the MP3 players, and their dignity’s still intact. But we’ve gotta get out of here—we’ll see you next time, and remember: it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye!”
Kirk and Amy wave to the crowd as the credits start rolling. Close-ups of many rooms in the Temple are seen, including the Ancient Cave and the Dark Forest. Dalton emerges from the Temple, and he, Amy and Kirk are seen talking and laughing as the credits finish rolling.
