We return from the commercial break to find Kirk standing in front of the Temple with the winning team.
“Welcome back to Legends: Rebirth,” says Kirk. “The Red Jaguars have proven themselves worthy, and now they’ve earned the right to enter Olmec’s Temple. But first, Olmec’s gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the Wedding Ring of Nocatula…”
Olmec begins to explain the layout as the camera gives us a first-person tour of the Temple:
“You could start…by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeletons, and pass into the Bottomless Pit! Swing across the gap, and climb into the Lookout Tower. Focus the telescope to read the ancient print on the far wall, and a door may open into the Geographer’s Study. Find the missing pieces of the map and correctly place them, and pass into the Inventor’s Workshop. Turn the wheel to start the machine, and open the door to the SHRIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room…of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh’s Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Dungeon, where you could smash through the wall into the Dark Forest—but beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees! Find the key in the tree, and you’ll enter the Chamber…of the Four Elements. Place the elements in the proper order, and you’ll gain entry to the Owl’s Nest! Find the special white owl, and attach it to its proper nest, then…race through the Pit, climb through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate. The choices are yours and yours alone!” Olmec pauses. “You won 2 Pendants in the Temple Games. Who’s going first?”
“I am,” says Esteban.
“Very well, Esteban,” says Olmec. “When Kirk gives the signal, you’ll race through the Gates into the Temple and make your way toward the Wedding Ring. Hidden inside the Temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but…if you’re caught without a Pendant, you’ll be taken out of the Temple, and it’ll be Kristin’s turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Wedding Ring, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards…will vanish. Return through the Gates with the Wedding Ring of Nocatula in three minutes, and you’ll both be handsomely rewarded…and here’s how!”
• Just for making it this far, they’ll get a sports package from Outdoor Products.
• If they can grab the Wedding Ring within three minutes, they’ll also receive a game table.
• And if they can bring the Wedding Ring out of the Temple before three minutes expires, they’ll win a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia.
“All right, let’s see if they can claim that trip to Vancouver,” says Kirk. “Let’s get in position, mouthpieces in. Let’s set the clock for three minutes!” The clock slams down in the bottom right-hand corner, set to go.
“Olmec, lower the gate.” Olmec moans gutturally as the gate is lowered, and the black lights under him go out.
“Frontrunner ready?” asks Kirk.
“Yup,” Esteban says.
“Okay,” replies Kirk. “On your mark, get set, GO!”
“There he goes, into the Temple with his Pendant!” Kirk narrates as Esteban rushes up the stairs. He soon enters the Crypt and pulls two books, opening the door to the Bottomless Pit on the second pull, but also revealing the first TEMPLE GUARD behind the hidden door in the room (2:52). “Oh, Temple Guard, right off the bat!” narrates Kirk. “He’s got a Pendant, though, so he can go on!” Esteban quickly hands over his Pendant and progresses into the Bottomless Pit. He grabs the rope and swings across the gap, but he fails to land on the opposite ledge the first time. “Whoa, careful not to fall into the Bottomless Pit!” Kirk narrates. Esteban regains his bearings and eventually steps onto the ledge (2:33). “Oh, that was a close one!” narrates Kirk. Esteban hits the actuators for both the Geographer’s Study and the Lookout Tower, and both these doors open. “Those doors opened, but which one will he go through?” Kirk asks. Esteban answers Kirk by taking the door to the Geographer’s Study, appearing in the room a few seconds later. He finds the Central America puzzle piece on the floor of the room, and places it without a hitch (2:24). He looks around for a bit until he finds two more pieces on the stage-left wall, and correctly places India and Russia’s Irkutsk region. He immediately finds the final piece—Northern Africa—and places it, opening the doors to both the Lookout Tower and the Inventor’s Workshop (2:09). “There, the map’s finished—into the Inventor’s Workshop!” Kirk narrates. Esteban races into the room, but no sooner has he set foot in it than he is ambushed by the second TEMPLE GUARD (2:04).
“Oh, Temple Guard! Now it’s Kristin’s turn!” Kirk narrates as Kristin takes off up the stairs. She follows Esteban’s path exactly, soon entering the Inventor’s Workshop (1:49). “She’s in the room; now she’s gotta turn the wheel!” narrates Kirk. Kristin grabs one of the handles of the capstan and begins spinning the wheel around. When she makes four complete rotations, the painted-on gears at the back of the room light up, and the door to the Shrine opens (1:23). “That’s it!” Kirk narrates. “Now she’s in the Shrine of the Siiiillllver Monkey!” Kristin enters the room and goes to the stage-left shelf to retrieve the base of the statue. She places it on the pedestal, but when she goes back to retrieve another piece, the secret door in the back of the room opens, revealing the third TEMPLE GUARD, who grabs Kristin from behind, prompting a loud scream from her (1:16). “Oh, the Temple Guard!” Kirk narrates as Kristin fumbles with her Pendant. “The Temple Guard scared her half to death!” Kristin hands her Pendant to the zealous Temple Guard, who slinks back to the secret door in the back of the room. Kristin heads to the back of the room herself, where she retrieves the middle part of the statue. She brings it back and aligns it on the base (1:09). “All she needs is the head,” Kirk narrates as Kristin grabs the head from the stage-right shelf, brings it back and jams it down, opening the doors to both the Room of the Secret Password and the Dark Forest (1:03).
“All right, into the Secret Password Room,” Kirk narrates, and Kristin starts to head into the room, but at the last second, she notices the open door to the Dark Forest, which she progresses through instead (0:58). “No, she’s going down—oh, I see, into the Dark Forest!” Kirk narrates. “Nice thinking—she found a shortcut!” After several seconds in the passage, Kristin emerges in the room, goes to the front, and reaches into the stage-left tree in search of a key, but comes out empty-handed. She walks over to the stage-right tree and sticks her arm in, finding a key (0:38). She sticks it in the actuator for the door to the Chamber of the Four Elements, opening the door (0:35). “All right, she got it!” narrates Kirk. “She’s only one room away from the Wedding Ring!” Kristin enters the room, and studies the pattern above the slots for the element tiles for a few seconds. She brings two element tiles propped up on the right side of the back wall, and brings them back and places them in the third and fourth slots. She rushes over and grabs the two other element tiles on the left-side wall, brings them back, and successfully completes the pattern of “fire, water, air, earth”, opening the door to the Owl’s Nest (0:21). “Twenty-one seconds…there, the room’s open!” Kirk exclaims as Kristin rushes into the room and grabs the WEDDING RING (0:16).
“She’s got the Wedding Ring! All the doors are open now!” Kirk narrates. Kristin rushes through the open door to the Bottomless Pit and lurches through the black-and-purple plastic balls in the room (0:14). “Through the Bottomless Pit and into the Ledges—thirteen seconds left! Can she do it?” Kirk exclaims. The camera shows Esteban, clapping and screaming “Yeah!” The camera then cuts to Kristin crawling through the Ledges, and exits the room, slipping and falling on her ankle in the process. She somehow finds the strength to dart through the Temple Gate with three seconds left on the clock.
“They did it!” Kirk shouts as Esteban cheers victoriously, waving his hands in the air. “They got it! They got it all! Kristin blazed through Esteban’s path, and got out just in the nick of time!” Kristin hops on her ankle and holds onto Esteban for support. “They won it all. They got the sports package, the game table—they’re goin’ to Vancouver!” Esteban yells in victory again as he holds his arm in the air, and Kristin is still favoring her ankle. “This team was great,” Kirk says. “I’m really glad they won! They deserved it! But we can’t stay here and celebrate forever—we’ve gotta get outta here. We’ll see ya next time, though. ‘Til then, just remember: it’s not just Legends, it’s Legends: Rebirth! Buh-bye!”
Kirk, Esteban and Kristin wave to the crowd and chat as the credits roll. The camera shows shots of the Temple Gate, the Crypt, and the Bottomless Pit, and finally cuts back to Kristin, still hopping on one foot, but still smiling. Kirk and the Red Jaguars wave to the crowd one final time as the credits finish rolling and the Stone Stanley logo appears onscreen.
