The camera makes its way through lush greenery, and the palms move away as ambient animal noises are heard. Portions of a temple are shown, and suddenly the jungle ends, and we see Olmec?s face light up and shout, ?LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!?

The show?s title card?a pendant of life?crashes together on the screen, and the camera shifts to focus on the temple and its rooms. ?With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!?

The pendant splinters and Kirk is seen crawling out of the Jungle Crevice to run right into the center of the stage and up the Steps of Knowledge as he begins his narration.

?Thank you, thank you!? says Kirk. ?It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today??

Olmec replies, ?The Legend of The Discarded Scabbard of Romulus!?

?Wow, the Discarded Scabbard of Romulus!? says Kirk. ?Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Discarded Scabbard. Will it be The Red Jaguars??

At this point, the camera focuses on each team as they are introduced.

?The Blue Barracudas??
?The Green Monkeys??
?The Orange Iguanas??
?The Purple Parrots??
?Or the Silver Snakes??

?They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests,? continues Kirk, ?and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec?s gonna tell us how they have to do it today.?

Olmec instructs:
?Before you lies an ancient rod that has fallen across the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, one player will hang from the rod by their hands and feet, and shinny across to the other side. Once the first partner is safely across, the second partner can cross the same way. When both partners reach the other side, run over and hit the gong!?

Kirk hits the Silver Snakes? gong to demonstrate, which?in turn?lights up a bright silver.

?The first four teams to hit their gong will go on to the next round,? finishes Olmec. ?Okay?teams?are you ready??

The teams excitedly reply, ?Yeeaahhhh!?

Kirk then asks, ?Mr. Olmec, are you ready??

?I?m a hard rocker,? replies Olmec.

?Okay then,? says Kirk, ?teams?on your marks, get set, GO!?

All six of the boys begin edging slowly out over the water, moving about 10 inches with each movement. ?They?re all doing it slow and steady today, will this work for them?? Kirk comments. ?They seem to be doing?OH, Orange Iguanas down?Green Monkeys down?Blue Barracudas?can he hold on?? The Blue Barracudas? boy seems to be having  a lot of trouble hanging onto the slippery rod, and eventually falls into the Moat, just as the Silver Snakes and the Purple Parrots reach the other side of the Moat. The Red Jaguars get their first player across, but the Silver Snakes and the Purple Parrots already have their second players about one-third of their way across the Moat already.

Finally, the Orange Iguanas get one player across, but The Silver Snakes gong in first, followed by the Purple Parrots and the Red Jaguars at about the same time. ?Whoa, three teams in!? says Kirk, obviously surprised by the sudden wave of teams finishing, ?but we need one more?who?s it gonna be? It looks like?.the Blue Barracudas! Alright?it?s over!?

Kirk runs over to the Silver Snakes? gong and hi-fives the both of them. ?Alright, Silver Snakes?no trouble at all! Going onto the Steps of Knowledge are the Silver Snakes?and the Purple Parrots?and the Blue Barracudas?and the Red Jaguars. Green Monkeys and Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort, they?re not going away empty handed?we?ve got a great gift for them, and here?s what it is.?

Wild Jungle EP: The Discarded Scabbard of Romulus
« Reply #1 on: July 29, 2009, 08:32:11 PM »
The screen transitions to a shot of the four teams atop the Steps of Knowledge. ?As the quest continues,? says Kirk, ?it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about The Discarded Scabbard of Romulus. But teams?pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s temple.?

Olmec narrates the legend:
?Born on one fine day were two small boys, Romulus and Remus. Legend has it, that when they were young, their royal uncle threw them into the river because he feared that Romulus or Remus would someday snatch away his regal position. The boys floated down the river in a basket, where a female wolf found them and raised them till they were more mature young men. By then, their wolf-mother was old, and Romulus and Remus decided to build her a nice city to spend the rest of her life in. Romulus immediately began building a wall to protect the city, but Remus complained that it was too short, and, to prove his point, he jumped over it! Furious, Romulus drew his sword and threw its scabbard to the ground, and killed Remus, naming the city after himself when it was complete?Rome! The city is still remembered today, but his scabbard went missing forever. Your quest is to find the Discarded Scabbard of Romulus, and bring it back here.?

?Thank you, Olmec,? says Kirk after a short pause, ?so tell us?where is this Lost Scabbard??

?The Discarded Scabbard of Romulus can be found?in the Catfish Cove,? replies Olmec. A spotlight focuses on the scabbard placed in a tripod-shaped holder on the center pedestal of the room.

?Okay then,? continues Kirk, ?teams?you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec?s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level, but if you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m gonna have to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams that make it to the bottom level?will be one step closer to Olmec?s temple. Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question??

Olmec asks: ?According to the legend, were Romulus and Remus??

The Purple Parrots stomp in early: ?Um?brothers??

Olmec replies, ?That is not one of the three choices. Were Romulus and Remus raised by?foxes, wolves, or??

The Silver Snakes ring in: ?Wolves???

?That is correct,? replies Olmec. ?Alright, step down Silver Snakes!? says Kirk, pointing at the second step. ?Next question, Olmec??

Olmec asks: ?Who abandoned Romulus and Re??

The Purple Parrots take an early guess again: ?Their uncle???

After some delay, Olmec replies, ?That?is?correct.? The Purple Parrots step down to the second step to tie up with the Silver Snakes. ?Alright,? says Kirk, ?Olmec?next question.?

Olmec asks: ?To protect their city, did Romulus build?a fence, a road, or??

The Red Jaguars shout: ?A wall!?

?That is correct,? says Olmec as the Red Jaguars move down to the second step. ?Alright, Red Jaguars on the board!? comments Kirk. ?Next question??

Olmec asks: ?Did their evil uncle throw Romulus and Remus into?a basket, a box, or a boat??

The Red Jaguars buzz in: ?A basket???

?That is correct,? says Olmec. ?Red Jaguars, coming back from behind!? says Kirk. ?They?re one step away from the temple games?Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks: ?According to our legend, did the two brothers build their city for?their uncle, their wolf-mother, or??

The Purple Parrots ring in: ?Um?their wolf-mom???

?That?is correct,? replies Olmec. ?Okay, now the Purple Parrots are all tied up with the Red Jaguars,? says Kirk, ?still plenty of time and plenty of questions?next question!?

Olmec asks: ?Today, is their city called?Italy, Rome, or??

The Red Jaguars interrupt: ?ROME!?

?That is correct!? shouts Olmec, as the excited?and very ear-piercing?pair of Red Jaguars jump down to the bottom step. ?We?ve got our first team going onto the temple games,? says Kirk, ?it?s the Red Jaguars! Still looking for one more team?next question!?

Olmec asks: ?Are the people of Rome called?Romanians, Romans, or Hungarians??

The Purple Parrots stomp down: ?Romans!?

?THAT IS CORRECT!? bellows Olmec across the stage. ?We?ve got our two teams going onto the temple games!? shouts Kirk. ?They are?The Red Jaguars and the Purple Parrots, nice job! The Blue Barracudas and the Silver Snakes did a great job too; they?re not going away empty handed. We?ve got a nice prize for ?em, here?s what it is??

Dee reads the prize:
?A savings bond from?Sketchers Footwear. Makers of fun, exciting, cool shoes, sneakers, and boots! Sketchers?it?s the ?S?!?

The screen wipes to reveal Kirk with his hands on the two remaining teams? shoulders. ?These two teams are going to be competing for the rights to enter Olmec?s temple?right after this!? The camera pans across several rooms in the temple on the bottom floor quickly, then focuses on the small ladder in the Secret Spring. Two pendant-halves join with a crash to form the show?s logo, then the screen fades to a commercial break.

The screen reappears as the pendant of life splits and the camera zooms out from the stage-left-most fish in the Catfish Cove, then turns show an aerial shot of the Temple Games stage.

?Welcome back to Legends,? says Kirk, standing  in front of The Mining Chamber with the two teams. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest?so let?s hear it for Jonathan and Katherine of the Red Jaguars! And Roberto and Emma of the Purple Parrots!?

?You guys ready to play?? asks Kirk. The players cheer and pump their fists in the air. ?Alright, then, boys you can go in that direction, and girls can go get ready for their game over there?? The players walk off in different directions, as Kirk continues his narration. ?In the temple games, teams are competing for pendants of life?? Kirk grabs a pendant out of his pouch and holds it up to the camera. ?The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards, as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1. Olmec!?

Olmec explains:
?Romulus and Remus planned to build their city for their wolf-mother. But to build their city, they?d need rock?lots and lots of rock. In this game, you?ll be collecting some rocks for them. When Kirk gives the signal, crawl into?crawl out to the first cube, grab a stone block, then crawl back and place it in your bin. Then crawl out to the next cube and do it again! On your trips, you must avoid the swinging obstacles?and if you are hit, you must go back and start again. The first team to collect all four blocks, or the player that?s further along at the end of 60 seconds?wins.?

?Collecting stone blocks?I hope I?m not the one that?ll have to build the city!? comments Kirk. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?

The clock slams down into the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set?GO!? Roberto crawls out?but is unaware of a swinging sandbag that is about to? ?OH!? says Kirk, ?Purple Parrots got hit?gotta go back?? Meanwhile, Katherine grabs the first block and brings it back to the Red basket in only about 7 seconds. ?Now comes the hard part,? says Kirk, ?because now they have to avoid a lot of obstacles to get to the other blocks!? 30 seconds remain when Katherine returns the third block, and five seconds later, Roberto gets his second block in as well.

This time, Katherine is hit by the second sandbag on the way out, and has to go back. Roberto manages to grab the third block?but? ?Purple Parrots, hit again!? commentates Kirk. Katherine scrambles to grab the fourth block?she even reaches to get it from the third cube! She crawls back quickly, with 10 seconds left?nine?eight?seven?six?five?four?three?two?and puts it in the basket to end the game with one second on the clock when it stops and fades!

?That?s it!? says Kirk, as the players run over to the baskets, ?The Red Jaguars got all four blocks into their basket first, so they get the half-pendant of life!? Kirk takes out a half-pendant and holds it in front of the camera. ?The Purple Parrots, though?they can catch up in the next game, it?s worth another half-a-pendant?Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
?Romans constructed many roads made out of stone, and their road system would go on for miles and miles. Before you stands a very long?and very slippery?Roman road. When Kirk gives the signal, run towards the road, jump on it, and slide all the way down on your belly. The player to slide the furthest down the road before stopping wins?but be careful! If you fall off the road, your opponent will win??

?Roman Roads were never this soapy!? complains Kirk, ?at least?I don?t think so! Let?s get ready?on your marks, get set?GO!?

Jonathan sprints toward the Roman Road, while Emma starts slower and picks up great speed. They both hop onto the pathway without their hands touching, allowing them to slide very quickly?one just behind the other. ?Whoa, it looks like they?re not stopping yet!? yells Kirk as the two players continue to slide with little momentum being lost. Eventually, around three-fourths of the pathway already cleared, the two players still show no sign of stopping?but they are very slow at this point. But?once they do, The Red Jaguars are still ahead by quite a bit!

?It?s over!? says Kirk, running over to the players, who are stepping off the footpath. ?It?s over?the Red Jaguars got further than the Purple Parrots, so I?m gonna give ?em another half pendant of life! Now we go onto the third and final game?it?s worth a full pendant; Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec continues:
??The Romans were not only good with architecture, but they were also good at finding people?to trade with. In this game, you?ll need to do a little trading of your own! When Kirk gives the signal, grab a silk cloth, and then crawl along the path. At the same time, your partner will grab a bag of spices, and crawl out to the middle of the path. Once you two meet, exchange objects, and slide back to your baskets and place them in. The team with the most successful trades at the end of 60 seconds wins.?

?I hope these trades are worth the trips!? comments Kirk. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock??

The clock appears onscreen in the corner. ?On your marks, get set, GO!? Katherine doesn?t know how to use the cords?and instead of crawling, attempts to walk, only to be pulled back after taking two steps. ?Whoa,? says Kirk, clearly surprised as well. The Purple Parrots and the Red Jaguars make their first trade at about the same time though, and 15 seconds are already down! ?This is a time-consuming process?trading,? comments Kirk, clearly noticing this too. The teams pick up the pace a little bit, and 33 seconds remain on the clock when the teams make a second trade. The Red Jaguars, however, have trouble with the next trade, and the Parrots pull ahead with one trade in the lead. The Red Jaguars aren?t far behind, however, and make their third trade with 18 seconds remaining.

The next trade happens rather quickly, leaving 10 seconds on the clock for one more possible trade between both teams. With the seconds counting down, the Purple Parrots quickly trade one last time and slide back. 4?3?2?but the Red Jaguars manage to make one last trade before time is up, tying up the score for the game!

?Alright, time?s up!? says Kirk, running over to the center of the two elevated paths to the scorecards. ?They each both made five trades, so it?s a tie?they each get the full pendant of life! That gives the Purple Parrots one, the Red Jaguars have two?the Red Jaguars are going to the temple!? The audience cheers wildly. ?Purple Parrots, you gave it a great effort too. You won?t be going away empty handed?we?ve got a great gift for you two, and here?s what it is!?

Dee reads the prize:
?BK Ratchtech?strap on the noise! BK Ratchtech, prepare?to?mutate!?

?They have two pendants, that?s very important,? shouts, ?because we?re gonna see if they can make it through Olmec?s temple?right after this!? The camera shows a shot of the foliage between Olmec and the Mining Chamber. The title card appears again, then the screen fades out.

The camera zooms out from a close-up of the Red Jaguars? gong?still lit?at the Moat, before it pans over to Kirk with his hands on the Red Jaguars? shoulders and zooms in on them.

?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Jonathan and Katherine have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But first, Olmec?s going to give them some information to help them retrieve The Discarded Scabbard of Romulus.?

Olmec begins his rundown:
?You could start by running up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds. Press down the correct beak, and pass into the Jungle Crevice. There, swing across, and climb into the Mouth of the Jaguar. Place the four fangs into the mouth, and you might descend into the Anaconda's Sanctuary. Place the snake in the correct hole, and you could pass into the Vine Drop. There, you might climb down through the wall of plants, or pull the vines to enter the Shriiiiine...of the Siiiiilver Monkeeey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Catfish Cove, where you could race down the Falls into the Secret Spring.

?You might plow through the stone wall into the Abandoned Camp?and break open the cage to find the key! Next, climb into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you will gain entry to the Treasury of the Monkeys, and find the right bunch of bananas to release the doors. Then, crawl through the Crevice, climb through the Mining Chamber, race down the stairs on back through the temple gates! The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one and a half pendants in the temple games. Who's going first??

?I am!? shouts Jonathan.

?Very well, Jonathan!? replies Olmec. ?When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Discarded Scabbard. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Katherine's turn to enter and try her luck. If you can reach the Scabbard, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with The Original Book of Marco Polo in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!?

Dee reads the team?s prizes:
? Introducing Simulator-2 action videogame chair! The lifelike videogaming experience, because sensors in the chair translate your body movements into game actions on the video display! From Simulator Technology.
? If they can grab the Discarded Scabbard before three minutes is up, you?ll each receive this iPhone! With tons of features, including games, Bluetooth, music, and more! From Apple.
? And if they can bring the Discarded Scabbard out of the temple before three minutes is up, you?ll be going to Busch Gardens! Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa Bay, featuring the tallest, steepest, and scariest rollercoaster on the East Coast...Shekira! From Anheiser Busch Entertainment.

?Busch Gardens, sounds like fun!? says Kirk. ?Can we get them there? We?ll see?mouthpieces in?and let?s put three minutes on the clock!?

The clock slams down in the corner of the screen. ?Olmec, lower your gate!? The gate lowers as Olmec moans and the lights around him switch off. ?Get ready, Jonathan?on your marks, get set?GO!?

Jonathan races up the stairs and into the temple, having a little trouble choosing his path, but eventually deciding to head up into the Room of the Tropicana Birds. ?He?s in the Tropicana Bird Room,? says Kirk, ?and?? BAM! The door to the Jungle Crevice slides open once Jonathan presses the first beak?the stage-leftmost one?and heads down the stairs to the top of the chasm. [2:45] ?He?s got the luck it takes to get through this temple?across the Pit he goes!? Jonathan swings across with no problem, then hits the actuator to the Mouth of the Jaguar?only to discover it?s locked. He tries the door to the Anaconda?s Sanctuary?and it slides downward to open up. ?Into the Anaconda?s Sanctuary?hopefully there won?t be any live snakes in there,? says Kirk, as Jonathan crawls into the room with 2:32 remaining.

Before he can grab the rubber snake, however, out comes the first? ?TEMPLE GUARD!? shouts Kirk. ?Scared him, scared me!? He?s right?Jonathan almost stumbled backward before he hands over his pendant, and feeds the snake into the stage-left hole. It doesn?t work, so he tries the other hole?and opens the downward door. [2:10] He has trouble maneuvering around the red ladder cover, but eventually begins to climb downward. He accidentally knocks the bananas off with his foot, but before he can do anything about it, a second TEMPLE GUARD emerges and he is pulled off the ladder by the guard and into the darkness of the ?subspace? with 1:55 left on the clock.

?Oh, he?s out! Go!? Kirk doesn?t notice Jonathan?s capture, but Katherine races up the stairs anyway?and I mean races! She gets from the gates to the top of the Jungle Crevice in 15 seconds, and instead of swinging across, she jumps down and hits the actuator to the Treasury of the Monkeys. She?s lucky too, because the door slides open and she dives headfirst into the crawl space. [1:33] Instead of climbing up the ladder, Katherine grabs the bunch of bananas that Jonathan kicked down, and places it on the altar while grabbing another bunch with her tip-toes. She realizes that the first doesn?t open the doors, but Katherine recovers fast?she literally throws the second bunch on the altar! It bounces off, but nevertheless, the door to the Tropical Forest opens with 1:20 left on the clock. ?Go, Katherine!? cheers Jonathan, excitedly. ?GO!? Katherine has no trouble at all with all the vines hanging from the ceiling?she blazes right through the Tropical Forest, and hits the actuator to the lower door leading to the Abandoned Camp. The camera switches view, and shows her head-butt the stone wall, which gives way easily.

[1:05] ?Oh no, the Secret water pool can slow you down!? says Kirk, as Katherine has  a little trouble getting over to the small ladder?the entire (already softened) floor of the room seems to be even more flimsy today. She does, however, and climbs up onto the small platform and over onto the base of the Falls. ?GO! GO!!? Jonathan cheers her on wildly, as Katherine climbs the slide slowly but surely. ?She?s only one room away,? says Kirk, ?she?s just got to get through that door and grab the...? Kirk falls silent for a moment, but Katherine opens up the door, gets up from her crouching position, and grabs the DISCARDED SCABBARD with 47 seconds! ?Jonathan?s going wild and crazy; she?s got the scabbard! All the doors are open!? Kirk gets just as energetic as Katherine?s partner, but by this time, Katherine?s already storming through the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, but has to slide open the slightly-faulty door to the Vine Drop.

[0:40] Katherine tears right through the three vines, and begins the climbing all the way to the top of the temple. ?I think she can pull this off,? says Kirk, ?she?s just got to?uh, oh!? Katherine almost walks right into the jaguar?s mouth, but maneuvers around it and picks up speed heading down the second stairwell. [0:32] ?She has to cross the Jungle Crevice!? yells Kirk. ?Can she make it? Will she?YES!? In one swift move, Katherine grabs the vine, and swings across?almost spinning because of her speed?but gets across and FLIES right into the doorway. ?Come on, you can do it Katherine!? says Kirk vigorously, as Katherine rushes her way through the Room of the Tropicana Birds and down the stairs behind Olmec. ?Come on?will she get out?SHE MADE IT!? Kirk and Jonathan go wild as Katherine jumps down the stairs to record a win with 19 seconds left on the clock!

?YES! SHE MADE IT! SHE MADE IT! THEY GOT IT ALL!? Kirk goes absolutely berserk, as Katherine and Jonathan hug, and they both hold up the silver-colored scabbard together. ?They did it all! They?re gonna get it all,? says Kirk, ??they?re got the Videogame Chair! They got the iPhone! THEY ARE GOING TO BUSCH GARDENS! They had a great time, I did too?but it?s time to go! See you next time for another great Legend of?the Hidden Temple?Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!?

The credits scroll as various ending scenes are shown: the door between the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and the Secret Spring, the pieces of the broken wall in the Abandoned Camp, and a first-person shot of going down The Falls. Finally, the camera fades out, and the light bulb-Nickelodeon logo is shown as an electric buzzing noise is heard.

Summary:

I believe this is one of the episodes with the "Hang from the Rod" moat that all the teams can actually pass without a ton of trouble. This time, the mist didn't even begin to disappear when the fourth team gonged in. The Steps of Knowledge were fairly quick as well, with the Purple Parrots and Red Jaguars almost alternating answering questions correctly, and besides the six questions that took them to get down, the only other movement was the Silver Snakes ending up on the second step at the end of the round.

The temple games were all quite close and exciting, but the Purple Parrots seemed to always fall short in each game. I must also declare that this is one of only two episodes to feature the "Slide down the Slippery Footpath Longer than your Opponent" (whew!) game, and one of only three to use the Trading Game with scorecards (the game was used more than three times, but on only three occasions the scorecards were used. Anyhow, the Red Jaguars advanced to the temple after winning two pendants.

Jonathan was an average frontrunner; not the fastest, not the greatest, but he made some good time. Katherine, on the other hand, was one of the smarter contestants I've seen on the show so far - and 60 episodes is quite a lot! She took a shortcut, cutting off major time, and in the Treasury of the Monkeys, she used the bunch of bananas on the floor first (but it didn't work anyway). Katherine grabbed the Scabbard with 47 seconds to go, then took the high road out and raced through the gates to meet an animated pair of Kirk and Jonathan to record a victory with 19 seconds left! For a Red Jaguars win, this was quite a good one...and even though it featured a near-clone temple route of "The Silver Horseshoe of Butch Cassidy" in the original show, this team deserved it much more in my opinion.

SIDE NOTES: Olmec didn't announce the location of the artifact during his temple rundown, but luckily the team didn't pull a "Golden Pepperoni". XD

OFF-TOPIC: I know I'm fussy and I'm sort of a neatfreak, but I would appreciate if everyone would leave their comments till the fanfic is finished. I feel that some members wouldn't like to search through threads for the ending, so it's just a little request.

I strive to ALWAYS finish my fanfics, even though it might take two weeks just to finish one. Thanks for everyone's patience.

I make it a point to not comment on a fanfic unless it's finished--including the summary.

Awesome work. Can't wait to see more.
