Rediscovery EP: The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi

Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 25px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Legend of the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi."

"Oh, the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi!" Kirk says in response. "Well one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Sandal.  Will it be:
"Chris and Nadine of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Steven and Erica of the Blue Barracudas,
"Brian and Jennifer of the Green Monkeys,
"Sean and Carla of the Orange Iguanas,
"Nick and Victoria of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Alex and Leah of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some pretty tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's Temple.  But first, they must cross the Moat, and here's how they'll have to do it today:
"There's a rope in front of each team in the Moat.  When I say go, one player from each team will swim out to grab the rope, come back onto dry land and swing on the rope across the Moat.  Then they'll throw the rope to their partner and he'll swing across.  Now if any part of a player touches the water when he's swinging across, he'll have to go back and start all over again."
"And when the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.  Hey teams? are you ready?"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"OH YEAH!" Olmec's voice echoes.
"All right then," Kirk replies. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

The teams? first players jump into the four-foot-deep Moat and walk over to grab the ropes dangling from the halfway mark.  The girl on the Orange Iguanas is the first one to come back onto the dry studio floor with the rope, with the girl on the Blue Barracudas and the boy on the Purple Parrots right behind her.  The boy on the Red Jaguars ends up the last person to come back out with the rope.
?It?s tough to stay up so the water won?t get ya,? Kirk says as the girl on the Orange Iguanas steps onto the deck with the support of the spotter.  She prepares to throw the rope to her partner as the girl on the Blue Barracudas and the boy on the Green Monkeys land on the deck on her left. ?You wanna bend your knees up,? Kirk continues with the commentary when the boy on the Red Jaguars is sent back because his ankles touched the water.  The tall boy on the Purple Parrots, after having some trouble keeping above the water level, manages to swing across.
?We got our first team,? Kirk comments as the spotter helps the boy on the Orange Iguanas onto the deck. ?Two teams?? the boy on the Blue Barracudas steps off and hits his team?s gong? ?There?s three and four!? The girl on the Green Monkeys is helped up onto the deck by her partner, at the same time as the girl on the Silver Snakes. ?We got our four teams!? Kirk runs past the Red Jaguars, whose first player unintentionally hits his partner in the face tossing the rope to her. ?Blue Barracudas hung in there, it?s paying off for them, cause they?re goin? to the Steps of Knowledge, along with the Green Monkeys?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team? ?and the Orange Iguanas? and the Silver Snakes! Red Jaguars and Purple Parrots gave it a great effort too.  They?re not going away empty-handed, we?ve got a nice gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Chris, Nick, Victoria and Nadine will each be receiving a copy of How to Eat Fried Worms on DVD.

Rediscovery EP: The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi
« Reply #1 on: April 17, 2007, 12:55:51 PM »
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi.  But pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you one step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"In 1919, India was still governed by the British Empire, but its people were far from happy.  The Rowlatt Acts were established, and gave officers the rights to search and capture property and arrest citizens for no stated reason.  The people of India, needless to say, were outraged.
"'Let?s shoot the men down!' one man suggested.
"'We don?t have any guns, let?s burn the officers!' offered another.  But then a man named Mohandas Gandhi stepped forward.
"'We?re fresh out of torches,' said Gandhi, 'and besides, we?re looking at this the wrong way.  They can?t control us if we don?t let them.  We?ll do something I just called a boycott.  With Brahman?s eye watching over us, there?s no way we can lose!'
"And so Gandhi led the citizens of India on a protest against the Rowlatt Acts.  They marched through the cities, shutting down offices and factories, whose workers would join in with the crowd.  Eventually Gandhi marched to the capital of Delhi, having gained millions of supporters and the title Mahatma Gandhi, but having somehow lost one of his sandals.  Your quest is to retrieve the Sandal of Mahatma Gandhi and bring it back here."

"Thank you Olmec," Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, where is the Sandal?"
Olmec replies:
"The Sandal of Mahatma Gandhi can be found in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey." The camera zooms in on the Sandal on the camera-left shelf in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  All right Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Did Mohandas Gandhi fight for independence in: Japan, India, or Mexic???
Carla rings in: ?India???
?Correct,? answers Olmec.
?All right, step down!? Kirk shouts, and the Orange Iguanas move down one step. ?You?re gonna have to stomp down on that hard if you have to ring in.  Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Did Gandhi lead a protest against the: Intolerable Acts, Rowlatt Acts, or Navigation Acts??
After a second of hesitation, Alex buzzes in: ?Um? Rowlatt Acts???
?Correct,? Olmec replies, and the Silver Snakes move down a step.  Olmec then asks:
?Did the protest take place in: The nineteenth century, The twentieth century, or The twenty-first???
Leah gongs in and makes an odd expression as she guesses: ?Twenty century???
?That is correct,? replies Olmec, and the Silver Snakes step down again.
?All right, one more correct response from the Silver Snakes and they?re goin? to the Temple Games,? Kirk explains to the audience. ?Next question, Olmec.?
Olmec now asks:
?Mohandas Gandhi believed in non-violent protest.  Did he call his belief: Shiva, Satyagraha, or Scott??
Steven stomps down first and guesses: ?Sat? yuh? grah-ah???
?Correct,? says Olmec, and the Blue Barracudas move down a step.
?Plenty of time for the Green Monkeys to catch up,? Kirk narrates. ?Olmec, next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was the kind of protest Gandhi suggested a: Lockdown???
Alex interrupts Olmec: ?Lockdown???
?Incorrect,? Olmec replies. ?The other two choices are: Boycott, or Boy toy.?
Brian buzzes in: ?Boycott.?
?Correct,? replies Olmec, and the Green Monkeys move down to the second step.
?Everyone?s on the board now,? comments Kirk. ?This match is gonna be a tight one, I can tell.  Next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?Gandhi led a non-violent march through India??
Erica interrupts Olmec this time: ?A? non-violent march through India???
?That is not one of our three choices,? Olmec replies. ?During the march, did the protestors: Increase in number, Decrease in number, or Stay the same??
Jennifer cuts Olmec off during the third choice: ?It went down? ooh!? She abruptly turns away from the camera and buries her face in her hands.
?Incorrect,? Olmec replies. ?They increased in number.?
?All right,? Kirk says. ?Next question.?
Olmec continues:
?Along the way, did the protestors shut down: Offices and factories, City halls, or TV studios??
Steven rings in: ?Offices and? uh? factories.?
?That is correct,? Olmec answers, and the Blue Barracudas move down another step.
?Blue Barracudas are only one step away from the Temple Games now,? Kirk says. ?Let?s keep it goin?, Olmec.?
Olmec now asks:
?Mohandas Gandhi received a title of respect for his actions.  Was he called: Messiah Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi, or Mr.???
Erica gongs in: ?Messiah Gandhi???
?Incorrect,? says Olmec.
Leah stomps down first: ?Mahatma Gandhi???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Silver Snakes move down to the bottom step.
?We got our first team!? announces Kirk. ?Who?s gonna join them: the Blue Barracudas, the Green Monkeys or the Orange Snakes? Olmec, continue.?
Olmec does so by asking:
?Is the capital of India: Mumbai, Calcutta, or New Delhi??
Erica buzzes in: ?New Delhi???
?That is correct!? Olmec yells as the Blue Barracudas join the Silver Snakes on the bottom step.
?All right, that?s it, we got both teams going to the Temple Games!? shouts Kirk, walking onscreen to stand in front of the Steps of Knowledge and the two qualifying teams. ?The Blue Barracudas and Silver Snakes, they?ll be going head-to-head in the Temple!? Kirk then runs up onto the Steps through the space between the two teams. ?Green Monkeys and Orange Iguanas gave it a nice effort too.  They?re not goin? away empty-handed, we?ve got a nice gift for them and here?s what it is.? Brian, Carla, Jennifer and Sean will each be receiving a backpack provided by Eastpak.
Kirk is standing behind the Blue Barracudas and Silver Snakes on the bottommost level of the Steps of Knowledge. ?These two teams will be playing to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, ?and they?re gonna do it right after this!? The camera zooms out, pans out over the Moat, and zooms in before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi
« Reply #2 on: April 17, 2007, 12:59:55 PM »
Kirk is standing between the Blue Barracudas and Silver Snakes in front of the Great Chasm. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, so let?s hear it for Leah and Alex of the Silver Snakes!? The dark-haired boy and blond girl with glasses on the stage-left of Kirk high-ten as the audience applauds. ?And Erica and Steven of the Blue Barracudas!? The dark-haired girl and brown-haired boy with freckles on the stage-right of Kirk clap along with the audience.
?Now, go get ready for the Temple Games,? Kirk says as the players walk offscreen in different direction, ?and I'll tell you what's gonna happen here.  Now, in the Temple Games, these teams are competing for?? he opens his pocket and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? ?Pendants of Life.  They?ll need those Pendants to protect them from the DREADED Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
?Mohandas Gandhi led a long non-violent march for India?s independence.  In this game, you will go on your own march.  When Kirk gives the signal, climb on the wheel and adjust your weight to make the wheel spin.  When it makes one full rotation, it means you have marched one mile.  The player who travels the most miles in 60 seconds wins.?
?I?ve never heard of a one-minute mile,? Kirk says. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The girls have quite a bit of trouble with this game.  Leah tries starting off slowly, but it doesn?t keep her from falling off very early. ?You have to find the good rhythm, that?s the key,? Kirk explains as Erica falls off her wheel.  Both girls fall off again about fifteen seconds into the game, and then Leah starts moving faster than Erica after getting back on.  Leah falls off several more times before the ceiling spotlights flash to put an end to the game.
?Okay, I think that?s it,? Kirk says, running over to count the scores. ?Looks like Silver Snakes got six miles, she kept falling off, Blue Barracudas got nine miles! Blue Barracudas get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a second. ?The next game?s worth a half Pendant.  Olmec, tell us.?

Olmec continues:
?Along the march, Gandhi?s followers forced offices and factories to shut down.  Here you?ll be shutting down some offices, and the best way is to lock them up.  When Kirk gives the signal, fling yourself onto the spider web in front of you and climb up to one of the containers.  Once you break a container open, you can grab the key inside, jump off the web and fit the key into one of the keyholes at its base to lock up one office.  Then, climb back up the spider web and look for the next key.
?The first player to lock up all seven offices? or the player that?s furthest along in 60 seconds? wins.?
?Ah, this game might be the key to victory,? Kirk comments. ?Set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock appears in the corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Steven and Alex jump onto their webs at the same time and start climbing.  Steven and Alex retrieve their first key and fit them in the keyholes at the same time.  Steven is breaking his second container as Alex is fitting his second key into one of the remaining keyholes.  But then Alex gets his foot caught in the web for a few seconds, letting Steven tie up the game.  After a little longer, ceiling lights flash to indicate that time is up. Both boys break one of their last containers at the last second, but neither key counts.
?Okay, time?s up,? Kirk says, running over to count the number of filled keyholes. ?Blue Barracudas shut down four offices, the Silver Snakes shut down four offices? they each get the half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds again. ?Blue has a full Pendant, Silver has a half, we go to the third and final game, it?s worth a full Pendant.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
?Mahatma Gandhi led India to freedom, and in this game, you must find your own way to freedom.  When Kirk gives the signal, you and your partner will move along the wall and maneuver the chain along the slot, trying to make your way to the space marked ?Freedom? through which you can escape.
?The first team to reach Freedom? or the one that?s closer to Freedom after 60 seconds? wins.?
The camera shows Kirk standing in front of the two giant boards and facing the camera. ?This is for the Temple!? he reminds everyone. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock then appears in the corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
The Silver Snakes start off at a faster pace then their opponents, but slow down when they have to pass through the first metal loop, allowing the Blue Barracudas to catch up.  They both make it through the loops with 44 seconds remaining, but the Silver Snakes speed back up again afterward, however.
?This game takes a lot of communication,? Kirk explains. ?You or your partner have to make the same moves?it takes a lot of practice.?  The second loops are passed through by the Silver Snakes with about 27 seconds left, and they begin moving toward the open space marked ?Freedom? with the Blue Barracudas now about five seconds behind.  Finally, the Silver Snakes make it out through the open space with 4 seconds left.
?All right!? Kirk says as the spotters unfasten the players? equipment. ?It looks like the Silver Snakes were first, so they get the full Pendant, that gives them a Pendant and a half, the Blue Barracudas had one full Pendant.  The Silver Snakes are goin? to the Temple!? Leah and Alex high-ten four times in a row out of excitement.  Steven and Erica walk over, now unfastened from their equipment. ?These guys gave it a great effort too.  They?re not goin? away empty-handed, here?s what we?ve got for you.? Steven and Erica will each be receiving a small prize package provided by Skechers footwear.
Kirk is standing in front of the equipment for the third Temple Game accompanied by the Silver Snakes. ?We?ll see if the Silver Snakes can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve that Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi,? he says, ?and we?re gonna see it right after this!? The camera zooms in on the Shrine of the Silver Monkey from the stage-right side of the foreground, and focuses in on the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi
« Reply #3 on: April 17, 2007, 01:01:57 PM »
Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs with his hands on Alex and Leah's shoulders. "Welcome back to Legends," he says to the camera before turning around to talk to Olmec. "Olmec!" he shouts. "The Silver Snakes have proven themselves worthy and earned the right to enter your Temple.  But before they go, can you give them any hints to help them retrieve the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi?"
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
"You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Great Chasm.  Then, race into the Forbidden Fountain.  Place the correct bowl to tip the scales, and you could choose to go up into the Burial Pit, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
"Climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Dark Overlook, and correctly place all three torches to open the door to the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, where you can grab the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi.  Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, and you could advance into the Laser Light Room.  Find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and swing on the rope back across the Great Chasm.  Then, pass through the Room of Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone." Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am!" Leah shouts eagerly, raising her hand.
"Very well Leah," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Sandal.  Hidden inside the Temple are three ventilation shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and it'll be Alex's turn to enter and try his luck.  Hidden somewhere inside the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Sandal, all the doors of the Temple will instantly unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how:"
?   For just making it into the Temple, they?re both going to get an Ultra-Bounce trampoline from Bollinger.
?   If they can grab the Sandal within three minutes, they?re also going to get matching $500 Toys ?R? Us gift cards.
?   And if they can get the Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi out of the Temple before 3 minutes is up, they?ll both be going to St. Martin! The Golden Tulip St. Martin beach resort has its own private beach, water polo, and all the amenities of Golden Tulip International.  Golden Tulip International, for a prize package totaling exactly $12,000!

"St. Martin, I love it!" Kirk says, excited. "So, Leah, let?s get you into position.  Let?s get our mouthpieces in.  Let?s set the clock for sixty? I mean, three minutes." The clock appears in the corner of the screen. "And let?s lower the gate, Olmec!"
Olmec moans as he lowers the gate.
"On your mark, get set, GO!"

Leah races up the stairs into the Room of Temple Gongs, only to meet a?
?TEMPLE GUARD! Right off the bat!? Kirk shouts as Leah lets out a shriek. ?Scared her, scared me? Give him the Pendant!? Leah hands over her Pendant of Life, then walks to the front of the room to start pressing the gongs.  She begins on the stage-right, and starts moving to the left.  In sequence the gongs light up blue, purple, green, orange, and white, but Leah presses the leftmost one before leaving the room into the Great Chasm.  She swings across the gap to try the doors leading into the Burial Pit and Laser Light Room, but neither one opens. ?Well, looks like she?s gonna have to take a dive!? Kirk comments, and Leah drops down into the pit and hits the actuator for the door leading into the Forbidden Fountain. (2:10) When she enters the room, she begins to climb up the ladder to enter the Burial Pit; but of course, since she hasn?t yet completed the room?s objective, the door is locked. ?She?ll have to put the scales!? Kirk says, obviously not making any sense. ?She?ll have to? put a bowl on the scales!? Leah then walks to the front of the room, grabs a bowl, and puts it in place on the scales, but nothing happens. ?Try another!? On the third attempt, the scales tip the other way, and Leah once again climbs the ladder to try entering the Burial Pit. (1:34) But the door is still closed, so she looks around for a second before deciding to go back into the Great Chasm.
?She has to go forward!? Kirk says, facing a clapping Alex as he?s talking. ?I guess she has to go into the Room of the Secret Shafts, figure out where to go from there.? Leah then turns around, goes back into the Forbidden Fountain, and walks across the room and enters the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  She walks down one ramp and up the other, then presses the actuator for the higher door leading into the Switch Inferno.  It doesn?t open, so she tries the lower door.  She crawls through and enters the Switch Inferno, but before she can hit any actuators, out comes the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?Oh! Oh! Take off, Alex!? Kirk shouts when the Temple Guard appears.  Alex has only 59 seconds left, but that should be enough for him to at least grab the Sandal, if not escape with it.  He almost slides down into the Crevasse, but changes his mind and goes up into the Room of Temple Gongs, then passes into the Great Chasm.  He sits on the edge of the rock ledge and drops down into the pit, then crawls into the Forbidden Fountain. (0:40) He walks across into the Junction of the Secret Shafts, jogs across the room, but tries crawling through the upper tunnel to meet a locked door.  He then backs out after a second, passes through the other door, and enters the Switch Inferno. (0:27) ?He?s into the Actuator Fire Room? the Inferno of the Actuators,? Kirk comments. ?That?s where Leah got taken out.? He begins hitting actuators on the back wall of the Switch Inferno, then tries hitting the ones on the camera-left wall? but we?re out of time!
?Oh, time?s up! C?mon over here, Alex!? Kirk calls.  The camera shows Alex leave the Switch Inferno via the outside wall and walk over to join Leah and Kirk to close the show. ?You couldn?t quite get there in time,? Kirk says, ?but you still get to keep the trampolines, and we gotta get outta here.  Join us next time for another great Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? The camera zooms out, and then pans along the outside wall of the Temple as the credits roll.

Rediscovery EP: The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi
« Reply #4 on: April 17, 2007, 02:21:07 PM »
Temple Run Summary
Episode 25px]

Name of Artifact: The Sandal of Mohandas Gandhi
Season: 2
Layout: 1 (5 overall)
Result: Failed acquisition
Time Remaining: N/A
Team: Silver Snakes
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The Shrine of the Silver Monkey

One of the worst episodes in The Rediscovery's history.  The Silver Snakes weren't a particularly outstanding team in the earlier rounds, of which nothing really stood out.  Leah wasn't very quick in the Temple, either, and she didn't have too much of an idea what she was doing.  More than once she tried to climb up the ladder in the Forbidden Fountain to meet a locked door, and after completing the objective in the room, she tried backtracking and probably would've left the Temple via the Crevasse if Kirk hadn't said something!

Now, Leah was taken out in the Switch Inferno with exactly a minute left.  You'd think Alex could just retrace her path, bust through the wall into the Dungeon and (hopefully) take the diagonal passage in the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and grab the Sandal before time runs out, right? Wrong.  Alex took a whole thirty-two seconds just to make it to where Leah left off, and then tried going up, which killed the rest of the time he had.  It sounded like Kirk was going to say "Let's set the clock for sixty minutes" before the Temple Run, and only if the clock took that screwed-up command could this team achieve victory.

Trivia and Records:
Kirk and Olmec both made several mistakes with the artifact name in this episode, calling it the "Sandal of Mahatma Gandhi" (another name used to refer to Gandhi, but nonetheless wrong) on multiple occasions.
