The camera makes its way through lush greenery, and the palms move away as ambient animal noises are heard. Portions of a temple are shown, and suddenly the jungle ends, and we see Olmec?s face light up and shout, ?LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!?

The show?s title card?a pendant of life?crashes together on the screen, and the camera shifts to focus on the temple and its rooms. ?With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is now!?

The pendant splinters and Kirk is seen crawling out of the Jungle Crevice to run right into the center of the stage and up the Steps of Knowledge as he begins his narration.

?Thank you, thank you!? says Kirk. ?It's nice to see you! Thank you, Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today??

Olmec replies, ?The Legend of The Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes!?

?Oh , it?s the Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes!? remarks Kirk. ?Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Secret Script?will it be the Red Jaguars??

At this point, the camera focuses on each team as they are introduced.

?The Blue Barracudas??
?The Green Monkeys??
?The Orange Iguanas??
?The Purple Parrots??
?Or maybe the Silver Snakes??

?They?re gonna have to pass some tough mental and physical tests,? continues Kirk, ?and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec?s gonna tell us how they have to do it today.?

Olmec instructs:
?Before you, an ancient rope hangs into the Moat. When Kirk gives the signal, jump into the water, swim out to the rope, and bring it back to the shore. Then the first player will grab the rope and swing across. When you reach the other side, throw the rope back to your partner?who will then swing across. When both partners reach the other side, run over and hit the gong!?

Kirk hits the Silver Snakes? gong to demonstrate, which?in turn?lights up a bright silver.

?The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round,? finishes Olmec. ?Thanks Olmec,? says Kirk. ?So, teams! Are you ready??

The teams excitedly reply, ?Yeeaahhhh!?

Kirk then asks, ?Olmec, are you ready??

?This rock is ready to roll!? replies Olmec.

?Alright then!? laughs Kirk. ?On your marks, get set?GO!?

All six teams jump in and bring back their rope with fairly even speed, but the Orange Iguanas fall back into the Moat after trying to swing across. ?Oh, it?s neck-and-neck? It?s a really close match!? comments Kirk as the players toss their ropes back. ?But it looks like we may have our first team?it?s the Green Monkeys!? The Green Monkeys high-five each other, then slam down on their gong ahead of everyone else.

?Who?s gonna be the rest?? asks Kirk as the other teams attempt to catch up. ?It?s very close? Oh, my? Looks like we might have? The Red Jaguars! And the Silver Snakes!? The two teams both hit their gongs with split-second timing, right as? ?The Blue Barracudas are here! We?ve got our four teams!?

Kirk appears beside the excited Silver Snakes. ?Silver Snakes you did a great job, you?re going on to the Steps of Knowledge! And so are the Green Monkeys?and the Blue Barracudas?and the Red Jaguars.? The audience cheers loudly for the teams moving on, while Kirk continues, ?The Orange Iguanas and the Purple Parrots gave it a great effort as well; they?re not going away empty handed?we?ve got a great gift for them, and here?s what it is.?

The screen transitions to a shot of the four teams atop the Steps of Knowledge. ?As the quest continues,? says Kirk, ?it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about The Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes. But teams?pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s temple.?

Olmec narrates the legend:
?The most famous?and infamous?Spanish playwright of all time was Miguel Cervantes. He was known for his play, Don Quixote de la Mancha, which involved a man imagining himself as a knight, but legend has it that it did more bad than good.

??I don?t think it?ll pass,? said his neighbor Roberto as he read over the entire script. ?The theme? And it goes against the king?s will as well? I really don?t know?

??Don?t stress, hombre!? Miguel replied confidently. ?I?m sure it?ll be alright!?

?But this was not to be. During a rehearsal, the soldiers marched in on poor Miguel and jailed him, burning his script to remove any evidence of the infringing play. But what the king did not know about was the original script for the play, hidden back in Miguel?s dresser, which later found its way to the temple! Your quest is to retrieve the Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes and bring it back here.?

?Thank you Olmec,? says Kirk after a short pause, ?so tell us?where is The Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes??

?The Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes can be found?in the Anaconda?s Sanctuary,? reveals Olmec. A spotlight focuses on the bundled stack of papers lying on the front pedestal as the camera zooms in on it.

?Alright,? continues Kirk. ? Teams?you are now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec?s gonna ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level, but if you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m gonna have to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams that make it to the bottom level?will be one step closer to Olmec?s temple. Olmec, we?re now ready for your first question??

Olmec asks: ?Was Miguel Cervantes??

The Blue Barracudas stomp down early: ?Um, a writer??

?That is not one of our three choices,? replies Olmec. ?The three choices are?Spanish, French, or??

The Green Monkeys hit the marking:  ?Spanish!?

?That is correct,? declares Olmec. ?Alright, step down Green Monkeys!? says Kirk as they move down a step. ?You might wanna hear all the choices before you give an answer, teams? Next question!?

Olmec asks: ?Was Don Quixote?an encyclopedia, a play, or an epic??

The Blue Barracudas ring in: ?A play!?

?That is correct!? says Olmec as the Blue Barracudas step down. ?Nice job Blue Barracudas!? comments Kirk. ?Next question, Olmec??

Olmec asks: ?Was Cervantes captured for??

The Red Jaguars buzz in: ?Um?his play not being?uh, okay with the king??

After a short pause, Olmec replies, ?That?s close enough?for Olmec.? The mildly surprised Red Jaguars step down, as Kirk comments, ?Pulled it outta the clutch! Alright, Olmec?next question.?

Olmec asks: ?Was the main character in Don Quixote pretending to be?a king, a knight, or a stallion??

The Blue Barracudas stomp in and guess: ?A knight???

?That ?is?correct,? says Olmec allowing the Blue Barracudas to move down another step. ?Alright, now the Blue Barracudas are just one step away from the temple games!? remarks Kirk. ?Olmec, next question!?

Olmec asks: ?Once Cervantes was captured, did the prison guards?burn his script, throw his script in the water, or??

The Blue Barracudas interrupt: ?They burned his script??

?That is correct!? shouts Olmec. ?Alright, we?ve got our first team going on to the temple games!? cheers Kirk. ?It?s the Blue Barracudas, and they?re all fired up! We?re still looking for one more team?next question.?

Olmec asks: ?Is the capital of Spain?Barcelona, Madrid??

The Green Monkeys ring in: ?Madrid??

?Eso es correcto!? booms Olmec. ?Alright, now the Green Monkeys are also just one step away from the temple games!? says Kirk. ?Alright, Olmec?next question, please!?

Olmec asks: ?Is Spain a part of?Europe, The United??

The Green Monkeys interject: ?EUROPE!?

?THAT IS CORRECT!? yells Olmec. ?These two teams are going on to the temple games!? shouts Kirk as he runs over to congratulate the winning teams. ?They are the Blue Barracudas?and the Green Monkeys!?

?The Red Jaguars and the Silver Snakes gave it a great effort as well. They?re not going away empty handed; we?ve got a great gift for them and here?s what it is!?

The screen wipes to reveal Kirk with his hands on the two remaining teams? shoulders. ?These two teams are going to be playing for the rights to enter Olmec?s temple?right after this!? The camera starts from some thick foliage, then makes its way across the Moat?s deck, pass all six gongs and finally stopping in front of a small waterfall. The pendant crashes together onscreen, then we fade to a commercial break.

The screen reappears, the logo splits, and the camera zooms out from a foliage-crammed planter next to the Steps of Knowledge.

?Welcome back to Legends,? says Kirk, standing with his hands on the shoulders of the teams in front of the Jungle Crevice. ?Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest? So let?s hear it for Sean and Ashley of the Blue Barracudas?and Gabriel and Tina of the Green Monkeys!? The audience claps and cheers along with the excited teams.

?You guys ready to play?? asks Kirk. The players nod in response. ?Alright, then? Why don?t you go get ready for your games?? Kirk points to two different areas off-camera. ??I?ll explain what?ll happen, here??The players walk off in different directions as Kirk continues his narration.

?In the temple games, teams are competing for pendants of life?? Kirk grabs a pendant out of his pouch and holds it up to the camera. ?The winning team will need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards, as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec explains:
?Writing a play is never easy, and playwrights often go through many drafts and lots of hard work to finish one. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up onto the wheel and shift your weight to turn it. Each full rotation that you make?clockwise?will represent one more draft revised. If you fall off, get back on the wheel and continue spinning. The team to revise the most drafts at the end of 60 seconds wins!?

?That?s an interesting way of writing,? comments Kirk. ?I?ve got to try that? Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?

The clock appears onscreen in the corner. ?On your marks, get set?GO!? Sean and Tina race up to their wheels, but Tina starts to slip down the wheel almost immediately, while Sean begins to spin it, resting near the middle. ?The Blue Barracudas are doing a nice job!? remarks Kirk. ?The trick is to go slowly but surely?if you go too fast, you?ll fly right? OH, Green Monkeys are down!? On Kirk?s last word, Tina indeed does fly off the wheel and lands in the nearby foam bag.

[0:33] ?Sean?s keeping it steady? Keep it steady, he?s losing his balance!? commentates Kirk as Sean begins to falter, spinning around with the wheel. ?Oh, no? OH! Blue Barracudas are down; gives time for the Green Monkeys to catch up! The score is now 8-5 Blue, but Tina scores again as Sean struggles to get back into his original position. ?It?s gonna come down to the wire!? says Kirk as the audience begins counting down. Tina brings the score up to 9-7?but we?re OUT OF TIME!

?Alright, that?s all the time!? yells Kirk as both players step off the wheels and down onto the padding. ?Alright? Yeah, come on over here.? The spotters bring in the scorecards to show Kirk.

?So? The Blue Barracudas revised nine drafts; The Green Monkeys revised seven drafts? The Blue Barracudas get the half-pendant of life!? Kirk holds up a half-pendant as the audience cheers. ?Nice job by both teams? The Green Monkeys, though, can catch up in the next game?it?s also worth a half-a-pendant. Olmec, tell us about Temple Game #2.?

Olmec narrates:
?To get rid of the play, the king had Cervantes? script burned. In this game, you?ll be getting some of his scripts into the furnace. When Kirk gives the signal, put a stack of paper between your feet, grab the trapeze, and swing out over the gird. Then, drop it into one of the furnaces, grab another stack, and do it again. The first player to fill all nine furnaces, or the team that fills the most furnaces at the end of 60 seconds?wins!?

?It?s the burning of the books, Wild Jungle style,? comments Kirk as he runs away from the gameplay area. ?Let?s put 60 seconds on the clock!?

The clock slams down into the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set?GO!? Both Ashley and Gabriel seem to be having quite some trouble, continually scraping the ground with the paper stacks and losing them as a result. ?Might wanna raise your legs a little!? advises Kirk from the sidelines as Ashley finally scores one, and Gabriel not far behind. [0:38] ?There we go,? comments Kirk, ?and? Oh, Blue Barracudas don?t score?it was the same hole they dropped it in. You gotta drop it in a different hole?? Gabriel manages to pull ahead, filling another furnace with 16 seconds left. ?It?s gonna come down to the wire? Green scores, Blue scores!? The audience begins counting down, as the players take their final swing. Both teams manage to drop the stack into an empty hole, but the music stops and the clock explodes?TIME IS UP!

?That?s it! Time?s up!? says Kirk, running over to the raised grids. ?Let?s check it out? The Blue Barracudas got one?two?three furnaces filled,? he says, tossing the stacks of paper out. ?But the Green Monkeys got?one?two?three?FOUR furnaces filled; The Green Monkeys get the half pendant of life! So now it?s a half-pendant apiece? We?re going into the third and final game; it?s worth a full pendant, Olmec?tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?Miguel Cervantes was locked up in jail for writing a play unacceptable to the king. You and your partner are inside a similar prison, and your task is to escape it. When Kirk gives the signal, make your way through the path out of the prison till you reach the doorway at the end. When you reach the end, unhook yourself from the path and help your partner to the other side. The first team to escape the prison and pull their partner through the doorway, or the team that?s further along at the end of 60 seconds wins!?

?This is a tough, tough, maze!? says Kirk as he stares up at the two wooden boards. ?Alright, let?s set the clock?for 60 seconds!?

The clock bangs down onscreen. ?On your marks, get set?GO!? The Green Monkeys make it through the first set of metal handles quickly, leaving the Blue Barracudas behind, struggling to get through. ?Oh, nice move Green Monkeys!? comments Kirk. ?Remember, this is for the temple?whoever wins this is going to the temple!? The Green Monkeys make good time, with the Blue Barracudas scrambling at their best effort to catch up, but it?s too little, too late as?

?The Green Monkeys just need to get out?? yells Kirk as Gabriel and Tina reach the end of the track. ?Pull her through the? Help your partner out, you might? Alright, she?s out! It?s over!?

The clock freezes and fades as the audience cheers and the players are unhooked from the metal runner. ?So?The Green Monkeys made it all the way through the maze first; that gives them the full pendant of life! So that gives them one and a half; The Blue Barracudas had a half? The Green Monkeys are going to the temple!? The Green Monkeys cheer along with the audience as Kirk moves over to talk to the Blue Barracudas.

?The Blue Barracudas played a great game as well,? says Kirk, ?and we?ve got a great gift for them for playing?here?s what it is!?

Dee reads the prize:
?It?s $100 worth of Toys ?r? Us Geoffrey Dollars! Shopping for the latest gifts and gadgets at Toys ?r? Us is even more fun when you have Geoffrey Dollars??cause they?re good as cash at any Toys ?r? Us store worldwide!?

?This is nothing!? yells Kirk, pointing at the maze behind him, ?because the Green Monkeys are going to Olmec?s temple? Let?s see if they can retrieve that Secret Script?right after this!? The camera shakily pans slowly across the gongs, stopping at the Green Monkeys?. The pendant crashes together to form the show?s logo, then the screen fades out.

The logo splits down the middle as the camera spins around from the Vine Drop to face the Moat, then fades to Kirk with his hands on The Green Monkeys? shoulders.

?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Gabriel and Tina have proven themselves worthy and now have earned the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But first, Olmec?s going to give them some information to help them retrieve the Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes.?

Olmec begins his rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Tigers' Den and climbing down into the Jungle Crevice. Crawl through the pit, then race into the Treasury of the Monkeys. Find the right bunch of fruit, and you could choose to go up...into the Anaconda's Sanctuary?where you can grab the Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes?or, into the Tropical Forest. If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Secret Woods. Reach into the log and find the key, or plow through the wall and into the Lion Cage.

?There, ride the elevator up, and into the Catfish Cove.  Find the correct bucket, and open the door to the Shriiiiine?of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Vine Drop. Pull the vines to open the doors, and race up to the Wildebeests' Hideout. Turn the correct horn, and swing on the vine across the Crevice. Then, pass thru the Room of the Tropicana Birds, race down the stairs, and back through the temple gates. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won one and a half pendants in the temple games. Who's going first??

?I am!? confirms Tina.

?Very well, Tina!? replies Olmec. ?When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple, and make your way towards the Secret Script. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on but if you're caught without a pendant, you'll be taken out of the temple...and it will be Gabriel's turn to enter and try his luck. Hidden somewhere in the temple is the other half of your pendant. If you can find it, and you?re carrying the other half, you?ll get an extra life. If you can reach the Secret Script, all the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with The Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how!?

Dee reads the team?s prizes:
? For just going into the temple, you?ll both receive this camcorder! Sony DV Handycam records crystal-clear shots in Hi-Definition, complete with easy upload to your computer! It?s great for professionals and for playtime. From Sony
? If you can grab the Secret Script before three minutes is up, you?ll also each receive this videogame chair! Introducing Simulator-2 action videogame chair! The lifelike videogaming experience, because sensors in the chair translate your body movements into game actions on the video display! From Simulator Technology
? And if they can bring the Secret Script out of the temple before three minutes is up, you?ll both be going to Cancun! Kyrstal Cancun, the resort for beach lovers, with excursions to the Mayan ruins. It?s rich in history and rich in pleasure, from Krystal Cancun!

?Cancun!? says Kirk, ?well, we?ll see if we can get them there. Olmec, please lower your gate!? The gate lowers as Olmec moans and the lights around him switch off. ?And let?s put?three minutes on the clock!?

The clock bangs down into the corner of the screen. ?On your marks, get set?GO!?

?Alright, there goes Tina into the temple!? begins Kirk as Tina starts jogging up the stairs and behind Olmec. ?From there, she?s got a couple choice? Oh, she?s heading up into the Tropicana Bird Room!? Tina immediately makes a sharp turn to hit the rightmost beak, but before she can, out pops the first TEMPLE GUARD! ?Oh, temple guard!? says Kirk, as Tina stands there, startled. ?Give him the pendant?that?s it, now she?s just gonna hit the beaks?and move on!? She hits the other two, with the third bird opening the door to the Jungle Crevice. ?Now she?s got to make up a little time,? says Kirk, ?and get a good swing across!?

[2:33] Tina grabs the vine and swings across rather violently, then hits the actuator to the Wildebeests? Hideout. ?Alright, now she?s right above the Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes!? says Kirk as Tina makes her way up the set of steps into the Wildebeasts? Hideout. She turns both horns at the same time?proving to be a good move, as the stone slab obviously lowers almost immediately. ?Alright, right through the room and into the Vine Dropping Room!? comments Kirk, forgetting the room name as Tina appears in the Vine Drop?but a TEMPLE GUARD jumps out from the back of the room to take her out of the temple with 2:05 remaining!

?Oh, temple guard!? realizes Kirk. ?Now it?s time for Gabriel to take over! Go Gabriel!? Gabriel runs up the stairs, follows Tina?s path through the Room of the Tropicana Birds, and swings across the Jungle Crevice?but doesn?t make it all the way across due to his shorter size! ?Oh, no!? says Kirk as Gabriel drops down into the foam blocks and begins to climb up onto the ledge. ?That?s gonna cost him a little time!? [1:50] Gabriel gets onto the ledge, enters through the open door, and the camera zooms in on the half-pendant hanging on the actuator to the Wildebeest?s Hideout. ?Alright, he?s back up?and going into the Wildebeests? Hideout!? comments Kirk as he runs upstairs?having a little trouble getting around the wildebeest?s head, but making it through and heading down into the Vine Drop with 1:38 left on the clock.

Gabriel tugs down on each vine twice, going one-by-one down the room towards the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. ?Alright, got to find the right rope here!? says Kirk. ?Which one?there it goes!? The door to the Shrine slams open as Gabriel pulls the third vine on his first try, and he turns around to head into the room. ?Alright, now he?s got to put the monkey together?and that?s always hard! First the base?then the belly?and then the head? He?s doing good so far,? comments Kirk. [1:14] Gabriel grabs and places the base on securely, but has a little trouble with ever-difficult middle piece, trying to find which way to place it on correctly. After a little fumbling, he correctly places it in runs back to grab the head. [0:58] ?Alright, jam the head on?YES! He?s going on into the Catfish Cove!? yells Kirk, as Gabriel opens the doors to the Secret Woods and the Catfish Cove and bats sound.

He heads through the room and dives straight for the elevator. ?Alright, now he can catch his breath a little bit, think about his next move?he?s heading down the Lion Cage to the bottom?? says Kirk as the elevator begins to lower out of the upper cage and downwards towards the cold stone floor of the Lion Cage. The elevator hits the bottom floor, and Gabriel pushes open the cage door to exit the room, walks towards the stone wall and breaks it down with his hands?but out of nowhere comes the third TEMPLE GUARD to end the run with 46 seconds left on the clock!

?Oh, no! Temple guard!? says Kirk as the ceiling lights flash. ?The temple guards really didn?t want the Green Monkeys in Olmec?s temple? They were just doin? their job? Ah, we?ll get by them next time when we see you for another great Legend of the Hidden Temple?Wild Jungle style! Buh-bye!?

The credits scroll slowly as various ending scenes are shown: a panorama of the Moat area, foliage near the rarely seen end of the temple near the Lion Cage, and a second Silver Monkey resting in a planter beside the temple steps. Finally, the camera fades out, and the light bulb-Nickelodeon logo is shown as an electric buzzing noise is heard.

Artifact Name: The Secret Script of Miguel Cervantes
Location: The Anaconda's Sanctuary
Result: Got Caught by Three Temple Guards
Time Remaining: 0:46
Pendants Won: 1.5

This was probably just another regular second season episode of the show, but it did feature a pretty unfortunate temple run, although my opinion on the loss was deserving or undeserving is not really set in stone...

The episode had one of the fastest - and obviously, most boring - Moat crossings in the history of the show, the one with a single rope that was meant to be used to directly swing across. The Steps of Knowledge had nothing really interesting pop up, no hilarious "that is not one of our three choices" moments, and the temple games weren't that close, but the Green Monkeys showed a little dominance.

Now onto the temple run. Tina was by far one of the slowest contestants in Season 2, but she actually made average time, getting to the Vine Drop in about a minute before getting taken out of the temple. And then came Gabriel. He was fast, but he made a few mistakes. The first: I can't really blame him for being short, but his legs couldn't get onto the ledge, and had to drop down and climb up the walls of the Jungle Crevice. The second: he passed up an OBVIOUS half-pendant on the actuator to the Wildebeests' Hideout. And the third, working hand-in-hand with the second, Gabriel took the long way. This cost him, not only ruining the already-slim chances of a victory, but taking away the chance of even grabbing the artifact. Never failing to surprise players, a third temple guard appeared in the Lion Cage to end the run with some 46 seconds left. Nothing really much more I can say about this episode.
