Episode 8: The Enchanted Girdle of the Amazonian Queen

(Camera moves through a thick jungle taking two wrong turns and finally revealing King Olmec)

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple!

(Title card forms)

Olmec: With your guide, Kirk Fogg!

(Title card shatters)

Olmec: And here he is now!

(Kirk swings on a rope into the new Legends set)

Kirk: Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Thank you Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we gonna hear about today?

Olmec: The legend of the enchanted girdle of the Amazonian Queen.

Kirk: Oh, the enchanted girdle of the Amazonian Queen. Well, the legend is set and one of these six teams will have a chance to retrieve the enchanted girdle. Will it be:

(Camera shows each team cheering)

The Red Jaguars?

The Blue Barracudas?

The Green Monkeys?

The Orange Iguanas?

The Purple Parrots?

Or the Silver Snakes?

They'll have to pass some pretty tough physical and mental tests, and in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter Olmec's temple. But first, the must cross the moat, and Olmec will tell them how they'll have to do it today.

Olmec: Before each of you is a wooden raft and a rope. When Kirk gives the signal, stand on the raft and pull yourself to the other side. Then it will be your partner's turn to do the same. If you fall off, go back and start again. When both players have crossed the moat, run over and hit the gong. (Kirk hits the Silver Snakes' gong) The first four teams to hit their gongs will go on to the next round.

Kirk: OK teams, are you ready?

Teams: YEAH!

Kirk: Are you ready Olmec?

Olmec: This rock is ready to roll!

Kirk: On your mark, get set, GO!

Kirk: As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the enchanted girdle of the Amazonian Queen. Pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the legend will bring you one step closer to Olmec's temple.

Olmec: One of the most combative females of Greek mythology was Hippolyte, queen of the Amazons. Her prized possession was an enchanted girdle; a special belt given to her by her father, Ares, god of war. Legend has it that one day, the mighty strong man Hercules arrived on their shores, requesting an audience with Hippolyte.

Hercules: Hail, Queen of the Amazons!

Hippolyte: Hello, handsome. I just love that lion skin of yours…

Hercules: Uh, yes. I come in the name of King Eurystheus of Tiryns for my Ninth Labor-I mean, a special errand.

Hippolyte: Go on.

Hercules: He requests that I deliver the Enchanted Girdle of the Amazonian Queen, that's you...as a gift to his daughter, Admete.

Hippolyte: (giggles) Okay, Muscles…

Hercules: Uh...That's it? I was expecting some sort of negotiation-

Hippolyte: Oh, is that what you'd like? Well, we could do some of that in my bedroom…

Hercules: N-no, no, that will not be necessary, Your Highness. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hippolyte: Anytime, Sweetheart.

Olmec: Indeed, Hippolyte was so overcome by Hercules' stature an impressive "clothing", that she gave him her girdle without a fuss, completing the task. Years later, it was sent to the Temple. Your quest is to find the girdle, and bring it back here.

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, now tell us, where is this enchanted girdle?

Olmec: The enchanted girdle of the Amazonian Queen can be found in the Throne Room.

Kirk: Teams, you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. If you're right, you'll move down to the next level. But if you're wrong or ran out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's temple. Olmec, we're now ready for your first question.

Olmec: Amazons are known to be…rivers in South America, female warriors, or–?

(Female Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Female Red Jaguar: Female warriors.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Step on down!

(Red Jaguars move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Hippolyte was known to be the Amazonian–

(Female Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Female Silver Snake: Queen.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Now you're on the board Silver Snakes!

(Silver Snakes move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: The girdle was actually a–

(Male Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Female Silver Snake: Belt.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Nice job!

(Silver Snakes move down)

One more correct response and you go to the temple games. Next question.

Olmec: The person who gave Hippolyte the girdle was…Zeus, Hades, or Ares?

(Male Purple Parrot rings in)

Kirk: Purple Parrots

Male Purple Parrot: Ares.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Step down! Now you're on the board!

(Purple Parrots move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: What is the relation between Hippolyte and Ares? Mother and father, daughter and grandfather, or daughter and father?

(Female Orange Iguana rings in)

Kirk: Orange Iguanas

Female Orange Iguana: Daughter and father.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Come on down Orange Iguanas!

(Orange Iguanas move down)

Olmec: Ares is known as the god of…war, love, or thunder?

(Male Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Male Red Jaguar: War.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Now you're just one step away from the Temple Games!

(Red Jaguars move down)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Hercules is the son of…Zeus and Aphrodite, Zeus and Hera, or–

(Male Purple Parrot rings in)

Kirk: Purple Parrots

Male Purple Parrot: Zeus and Aphrodite.

Olmec: Incorrect.

(Female Silver Snake rings in)

Kirk: Silver Snakes

Female Silver Snake: Zeus and Hera.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: We got our first team!

(Silver Snakes move down and high ten)

Next question, Olmec.

Olmec: Hercules was sent to get the girdle for–

(Male Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Male Red Jaguar: Amdete.

Olmec: That is not one of our three choices. The three choices are: Theseus, David, or Eurystheus?

(Female Orange Iguana rings in)

Kirk: Orange Iguanas

Female Orange Iguana: Eurystheus.

Olmec: That is correct!

Kirk: Step down!

(Orange Iguanas move down)

Olmec: Eurystheus was the king of…Mystras, Tiryns, or Olympia?

(Male Red Jaguar rings in)

Kirk: Red Jaguars

Male Red Jaguar: Tiryns.

Olmec: That is correct!

(Red Jaguars move down and high ten each other and the Silver Snakes)

Kirk: We've got our two teams that are going head to head in the Temple Games! They are: The Red Jaguars! And the Silver Snakes!

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends, now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, I wanna talk to our team players. On the Red Jaguars we have:

Abby: Abby.

Kirk: How old are you Abby?

Abby: 13.

Kirk: It says here that you run track.

Abby: Yeah, I'd like to run a marathon when I'm an adult.

Kirk: Nice. Now who are you?

Leo: Leo. I'm 13 years old.

Kirk: It says here that you skateboard.

Leo: Well I ride around town. Sometimes to the local skateboard park. I fell off once.

Kirk: Tough luck. Let's hear it for the Red Jaguars!

Let's not forget about the Silver Snakes. Now who do we have here?

Mackenzie: Mackenzie.

Kirk: How old are you Mackenzie?

Mackenzie: 12.

Kirk: It says here that you once had intruders in your house.

Mackenzie: They were robbing me and my family.

Kirk: Did you get any of your stuff back?

Mackenzie: I did.

Kirk: Great! Now who are you?

Chris: Chris.

Kirk: And how old are you?

Chris: 13.

Kirk: It says here that you play the keyboard.

Chris: Yeah, I take lessons every week.

Kirk: How long have you been playing?

Chris: Six years.

Kirk: You've got some good music experience. Let's hear it for the Silver Snakes!

Why don't you girls get set up for the second temple game over there and guys get set up for the first one here. In the temple games, teams are competing to win Pendants of Life. The winning team will need those pendants to protect them from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games, and Olmec will tell us about the first one.

Olmec: One of the basic necessities an Amazon had to learn was how to throw a spear. You're at the top of a slide. When Kirk gives the signal, slide down and throw your spear in the center hole, then come back up the slide and go again. The player with the most spears through the center hole at the end of 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Alright, players get in position, let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Kirk: The Red Jaguars got seven; the Silver Snakes got six. That means the Red Jaguars get a half a Pendant of Life! Silver Snakes can catch up in the next game; it's worth a half pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Back in ancient times, even Amazons prayed to their deity to earn their support and favor, and now it's your turn. You are at the base of a mountain full of holes. When Kirk gives the signal, climb up the mountain with your offering by placing your pegs in the holes. Once at the top, place your offering on the stone slab, then carefully make your way back to the bottom. The first player to complete this task, OR the player furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Okay, let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Abby - Done (0:19 Remaining)
Mackenzie - 3/4 Done

Kirk: That's it! Red Jaguar made it down while the Silver Snake was halfway down. That means the Red Jaguars get another half Pendant of Life! The Silver Snakes still don't have a pendant, but they can catch up in the next game. Olmec, tell us about it.

Olmec: Hercules wore a long lion cloth to show off his superiority. You are wearing special cloths of your own. When Kirk gives the signal, unravel your cloth from yourself to your partner, then back again. The first team that completes this task, OR the team furthest along in 60 seconds wins!

Kirk: Let's put 60 seconds on the clock! On your mark, get set, GO!

Red Jaguars - Done (0:19 Remaining)
Silver Snakes - 2/3 Done

Kirk: That's it! Red Jaguars unraveled their cloth while the Silver Snakes were still going. That means the Red Jaguars get a full Pendant of Life, giving them two pendants. They're going to the temple!

Kirk: Welcome back! The Red Jaguars have earned the right to enter Olmec's temple. But before they get started, Olmec's gonna give them some information to help them retrieve the enchanted girdle of the Amazonian Queen.

Olmec: You could start by running up the stairs to the Crypt! Grab the book from the skeleton and pass into the Pit of Despair. Here, you must choose your next path. You could race up to the King's Storeroom, smash the clay pots and find the key that could take you down into Medusa's Lair. Place the snakes in Medusa's head and pass into the Room of the Ancient Warriors. Place yourself in the correct armor and open the door to the SHRIIIIIIINE of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue and you may be headed toward the Room of the Secret Password. Find the tablet with the correct inscription and shout it out to open the door to the Pharaoh's Secret Passage. Slide down the tunnel to the Quicksand Bog where you could smash to the Dark Forest. But beware of the Temple Guards that may inhabit the trees. Find the key in the tree, and you'll enter the Bamboo Forest. If you escape, you could gain entry to the Throne Room. Sit upon the Throne of the Pretender, then race through the pit, CLIMB through the Ledges, race down the stairs and back through the temple gate. The choices are yours and yours alone. You won two pendants in the temple games. Who's going first?

Abby: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Abby. When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the temple and make your way towards the enchanted girdle. Hidden inside the temple are Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on. BUT if you're caught without a pendant, you will be taken out of the temple, and it'll be Leo's turn to enter and try his luck. If you can reach the girdle, all of the doors of the temple will instantly unlock and the Temple Guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the girdle in three minutes and you will both be handsomely rewarded and here's how:

(Olmec moans gutturally while the gate lowers)

Kirk: Get in position. Mouthpieces in. Put three minutes on the clock!

(Timer bangs down)

Kirk: On your mark, get set, GO!

(Temple run music starts and HUD moves in on screen)

Abby heads down into the Ledges and heads for the upper door into the Pit of Despair. She hits the actuator and meets a temple guard (2:53)! She gives up her pendant, heads through the crawl tube and makes her way across the pit. She opens up Medusa's Lair, and puts the snakes in Medusa's head. After the fifth snake was placed (2:25), she heads up into the King's Storeroom and meets another temple guard (2:19)! Leo follows Abby's path into the Ledges all the way to the King's Storeroom. He smashes the middle pot which has no key, then the left which has no key either. Finally, he smashes the right pot which has the key. He finds it, puts in the middle pedestal which opens up the Room of the Ancient Warriors (1:52). He tries the camera-right armor which doesn't work, then the middle which opens the Shrine of the Silver Monkey (1:44). He heads into the room, puts together the silver monkey in 14 seconds and heads down into the Quicksand Bog. He busts through the Stone Wall into the Dark Forest (1:20) and heads for the camera-right tree which has the key. He opens up the Bamboo Forest (1:06) and makes his way across into the Throne Room. He opens the door (0:54), heads in, unravels the girdle from the ladder (0:48), and rushes into the Pit of Despair. He climbs through the Ledges and makes it out (0:36)!
