Rediscovery EP: The Iron Helmet of Rurik

Author's Note: This is one of the episodes in my independent project.  If you have any complaints, first thing to do is to go see the episode directory here:
Legends: The Rediscovery

Episode 35px]

The camera maneuvers through a thick rainforest to stop in front of an ancient temple.  A giant stone head next to the gate of the temple begins to speak:
"LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE! With your guide, Kirk Fogg! And here he is NOW!"

On this final word, Kirk appears from behind the Temple Guard door in the Dungeon and runs straight out into the foreground of the stage to greet the crowd. "Thank you! Thank you very much! Nice to see you! Nice to see you, Olmec! Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple.  The rooms are filled with lost treasures that are protected by mysterious Mayan Temple Guards.  Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple.  Which legend are we gonna hear about today?"

Olmec replies:
"The Legend of the Iron Helmet of Rurik."

"So the adventure is set," Kirk says, "and one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve that Iron Helmet of Rorik.  Will it be:
"Mikey and Angie of the Red Jaguars?" the camera pans to each team in order?
"Scott and Marissa of the Blue Barracudas,
"Jared and Katey of the Green Monkeys,
"David and Elizabeth of the Orange Iguanas,
"Joe and Alexandrea of the Purple Parrots,
"Or Nick and Samara of the Silver Snakes?"

"They'll have to pass some tough physical and mental tests," Kirk says, "but in the end, only one team will earn the right to enter the Temple.  First, they have to cross the Moat, and here's how they'll do it today:
"In front of each team there's a bridge of Arctic rings that stretches across the Moat.  When I say go, one player on each team will start crawling across the floating rings until he reaches the other side of the Moat.  Then his partner'll start crawling across the floating ring bridge til he gets to the other side."
"As soon as the second player steps onto the deck, it's his job to run over here and hit the gong." He slams down on the Red Jaguars' gong to demonstrate. "The first four teams to hit their gongs will be going on to the Steps of Knowledge? ARE YOU READY!"
The players all cheer and shout in response.
"Olmec, are you ready?" asks Kirk.
"I?m rockin? ready," Olmec replies.
"All right then," Kirk replies. "On your marks, get set, GO!"

The teams? first players scramble across the bridges made of six Arctic rings at different paces.  For example, the first player from the Orange Iguanas is only halfway across the Moat when the girl on the Red Jaguars steps onto the deck.  The girls on the Blue Barracudas and Purple Parrots make it across a few seconds later.  Ten seconds later the boys on the Green Monkeys and the Silver Snakes are across.
?It?s a tough challenge, swimming across those rings,? says Kirk as the boy on the Orange Iguanas finally makes it onto the deck.  The boy on the Red Jaguars becomes the first player to hit the gong, and the girl on the Silver Snakes is only a few seconds behind him.  The boys on the Blue Barracudas and Purple Parrots ring their gongs only a few seconds later.
?And that?s it!? Kirk announces, and the camera shows him standing with the Red Jaguars around their gong. ?We?ve got our four teams! The Red Jaguars?? the camera briefly shows each qualifying team? ?the Blue Barracudas? and the Purple Parrots? and the Silver Snakes.  You?re all going on to the Steps of Knowledge! The Green Monkeys and Orange Iguanas gave it a great effort too.  They?re not going away empty-handed, we got a great gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Jared, Katey, Elizabeth and David will each be receiving a copy of How to Eat Fried Worms on DVD.

Rediscovery EP: The Iron Helmet of Rurik
The four teams are now at the top of the Steps of Knowledge accompanied by Kirk. "As the quest continues, it's now time for Olmec to tell us about the Iron Helmet of Rurik.  But pay attention teams, because your knowledge of the Legend can bring you one step closer to Olmec's Temple."
Olmec begins to tell the legend:
"One of the coldest and most powerful Scandinavians of his time was Rurik.  He was a Varangian chieftain who led an enormous fleet of ships across the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland to invade the European section of Russia.  He was a calm and determined leader, and as a warrior, he was fearless.  Legend has it that, when Rurik led the invasion fleet in 862 A.D., many of his men wanted to turn back.
"'The seas, they are too rough, captain!' shouted Rurik?s first mate. 'We can?t take much more!'
"'Stay on course,' Rurik growled a response. 'We will get to Russia and become kings.'
"They landed not too many days thereafter, and began advancing east towards the city of Novgorod, where Rurik set up an empire called Kievan Rus.  However, a Russian tribes was not happy with this, and the people tried to start a rebellion and take him down.
"'I won?t stand for this,' Rurik hissed coldly, and he put on his iron helmet and rode out into battle on an armored horse.  He returned later that same day holding a chieftain?s head by its hair.
"'This will happen to anyone else who dares try to tear down Kievan Rus.'
"The natives were intimidated by Rurik and knew enough to back off, and Kievan Rus was left alone to last for more than 700 years.  Rurik?s descendants continued ruling the empire for centuries, and passed on possessions such as his iron helmet, which made its way to the Temple.  Your task is to find the Iron Helmet of Rurik and bring it here."

"Thanks a lot Olmec!" Kirk says after Olmec finishes telling the legend. "So tell us, where is this Iron Helmet of Rurik?"
Olmec replies:
"The Iron Helmet of Rurik can be found in the Crystal Cave." The camera zooms in on the Iron Helmet of Rurik positioned on the icy ledge in the front of the Crystal Cave, then fades back to Kirk.

"Teams," Kirk begins, walking down the steps, "you're now standing on the Steps of Knowledge, and in a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, I want you to stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you.  If you're right, you're gonna move down to the next level, but if you're wrong or run out of time, I'll give the other teams a chance to answer.  The first two teams to make it to the bottom level will be one step closer to Olmec's Temple.  Olmec, we're now ready for your first question."

Olmec begins:
?Did Rurik lead an invasion force into: Russia, Ireland, or Mexico??
Alexandrea rings in as Olmec reads the third choice: ?Russia.?
?You are correct,? Olmec replies.
?Nice job, Purple Parrots, step down,? Kirk says, and the Purple Parrots move down a step. ?Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Was Rurik born in: Transylvania, Scandinavia, or Sardinia??
After a second, Nick gongs in: ?Scandinavia???
?Correct,? Olmec answers.
?Nice job, step down Silver Snakes,? Kirk comments, and the Silver Snakes move down onto the second step. ?Next question.?
Olmec now asks:
?According to our legend, how did the invasion force travel to Russia: On land, By sea, or In the air??
Scott buzzes in: ?On land???
?That is incorrect,? Olmec replies.  No one else attempts to ring in before a bell sounds. ?Time?s up! The correct answer was: By sea.?
?Okay,? Kirk says. ?Olmec, take it easy on them.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?Once he landed in Russia, did Rurik establish an empire called: Constantinople, Kievan Rus, or Aragon??
All the teams try to ring in, but Marissa hits the marking first: ?Key?evan Russ???
?Correct,? Olmec replies, and the Blue Barracudas move down to the second level.
?Nice pronunciation!? Kirk comments. ?The Red Jaguars can catch up.  Olmec, next question.?
Olmec then asks:
?Is the capital of Russia???
Marissa cuts off Olmec again: ?Moscow.?
?That is correct,? answers Olmec, allowing the Blue Barracudas to move forward again and walk onto the third step.
?Blue Barracudas are now just one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk explains. ?But we?re looking for two teams.  Next question Olmec.?
Olmec asks:
?Did the empire of Kievan Rus last for more than: 400 years, 700 years, or 900 years??
Mikey hits the marking first, but blanks out and says nothing before a bell sounds.
Scott then rings in: ?700???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Blue Barracudas move down to the bottom level.
?We got our first team that?s moving on to the Temple Games,? Kirk says as Scott and Marissa jump up and down excited on the bottom step. ?We need one more, will it be the Purple Parrots, the Silver Snakes or the Red Jaguars? Next question.?
Olmec continues:
?According to our legend, a Russian tribe once tried to rebel against Kievan Rus, and Rurik set out to stop them.  Did he return: Covered in???
Samara stomps down first and quietly answers: ?Uhh? holding the tribe chief?s head???
?Was he holding the chief?s head??? Kirk repeats, a bit louder.
?That is correct,? answers Olmec, and the Silver Snakes walk down onto the third level.
?The Silver Snakes are now just one step away from the Temple Games,? Kirk informs the audience. ?But the other teams can still catch up.  Next question.?
Olmec asks:
?In St. Petersburg is a monument that was made in the thousandth year since Rurik?s invasion.  Is this monument called: The Millennium of Rurik, The Millennium of Kievan Rus, or The Millennium of Russia??
After a moment of hesitation, Angie rings in: ?A Millennium of Rurik???
?Incorrect,? Olmec says in response.
Now Alexandrea stomps in: ?Millennium of Russia???
?That is correct,? answers Olmec, and the Purple Parrots get to move down onto the third step.
?Purple Parrots and Silver Snakes both need just one more answer to move on to the Temple Games,? Kirk summarizes. ?Olmec, let?s keep going.?
Olmec asks:
?Later in history, were Russian rulers known as: Pharaohs, Tsars, or???
Alexandrea buzzes in: ?Tsars???
?That is correct!? Olmec shouts, and the Purple Parrots are allowed to join the Blue Barracudas on the bottom step.
?We got our two teams!? Kirk says, walking up the side of the bottommost level of the Steps of Knowledge to avoid being caught in the middle of the teams? celebration. ?The Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots are gonna go head-to-head in the Temple Games! The rest of you guys can come on down here.? The Red Jaguars move down two levels and the Silver Snakes walk over to join Kirk. ?These guys gave it a great effort too.  We got a nice gift for them for playing and here?s what it is.? Mikey, Samara, Nick and Angie will each be receiving a copy of the Sonic Riders Nintendo GameCube game.
Kirk is now standing at the bottom of the Steps of Knowledge between the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots. ?These two teams will be playing for the right to enter Olmec?s Temple,? he says, and ?they?re gonna do it right after this! Gimme some five!? Kirk high-fives each of the players as the camera pans out and fades to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Iron Helmet of Rurik
Kirk is standing between the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots in front of the Steps of Knowledge. ?Welcome back to Legends,? he says. ?Now, of course, the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest, but before we get started, I wanna get to know our two tough teams.? He turns to interview the boy just left of center screen, who has somewhat long dark brown hair and hazel eyes. ?On the Purple Parrots, we have Joe.  How old are you??
?Fifteen,? he replies.
?And I understand you like to play soccer and skateboard, but you also want to be a comic artist,? Kirk reads. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Joe explains, ?I got into manga? Japanese comic art? when I was in middle school, in sixth grade, and I started drawing and I?ve been working on comic books ever since.?
?How much work do you usually get done in a day?? Kirk asks.
?Probably? pencil one page and ink the one I just drew the day before.?
?Did you ever finish a full comic book??
?Umm? actually, not yet.  Cause I?d go a little ways in and then decide I need to change something.  I think I have a good idea now though, probably not gonna change it much now.?
?Well when your comic books hit the shelves, I?ll be sure to read it,? Kirk says, going to talk to the short blond girl on the far left of the screen. ?And Alex-an-dray-uh? did I say that right??
Alexandrea nods.
?How old are you??
?Twelve,? she replies.
?And I understand your friends have a lot of nicknames for you,? Kirk says. ?Could you tell us a few of them??
?Umm?? she begins, ??Lex,? ?Drew,? ?Alex,? ?A,? ?A-Reg?? since my last name?s Regan? ?Blondie,? and sometimes they call me ?Squeaky.??
?Do you have a favorite nickname?? Kirk asks.
?I think I?m okay with ?Lex,?? she answers.
?You won?t mind if I call you ?Lex,? then??
?Sure, go right ahead.?
?Okay, thanks,? Kirk says. ?Let?s hear it for the Purple Parrots!? Joe and Lex clap along with the audience as Kirk goes to talk with the boy just right of center screen, who has short, dark brown hair and brown eyes. ?And on the Blue Barracudas.  Scott, how old are you??
?Thirteen,? he replies.
?And you like swimming, rock climbing and you want to be a writer,? Kirk says. ?You already started on a book??
?It?s not like a novel,? Scott explains, ?probably short stories.  I got a few down, some of them were based on these less crazy dreams I had.?
?So we got two boys who want to publish books,? Kirk comments. ?Maybe you could trade ideas after the show.? He then goes to interview the girl on the far left of the screen, who has long, curly brown hair. ?And Marissa, how old are you??
?Thirteen,? she answers.
?And I hear you like cheerleading and you have two cats,? Kirk says. ?Tell me about that.?
?Well,? Marissa explains, ?we got them at the same store at the same time, I?ve had them for three years now, one?s all white and the other one?s all black, so we named them Yin and Yang.?
?Is it a lot of trouble to raise two cats?? asks Kirk.
?It was at first,? replies she, ?but I think I know how to take care of them now.?
?Let?s hear it for the Blue Barracudas!? Kirk shouts, and the audience applauds for a second.

?Okay, why don?t you guys go and get ready for those Temple Games,? Kirk says as the players walk offscreen, ?and I'll tell you what's gonna happen here.  Now, in the Temple Games, these teams will be competing for?" he opens a pouch and pulls out a small gold medallion to show to the camera? "Pendants of Life.  The winning team will need those Pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded Temple Guards as they make their way through the Temple.  There are three Temple Games, and Olmec will tell us about Temple Game #1.?

Olmec begins:
?Rurik and his men spent a long time on the rough seas sailing to Russia, but fortunately for you, your voyage will be much shorter.  When Kirk gives the signal, row out to the island and, without touching the water, mount your flag on the island.  Then, sail back and return to the dock.
?The first player to mount their flag and return with both feet on the dock? or the player that?s furthest along after 30 seconds? wins.?
?Sounds like a challenge, they gotta claim a foreign land and sail back with it,? Kirk says. ?Okay, let?s set 30 seconds on the clock.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Scott and Joe row out from the docks and plant the flags on their respective islands at around the same time, with about 18 seconds remaining.  However, then the boats have to be turned around, and Joe turns the boat back around much faster than Scott does, allowing him to take a good lead and run back up the dock with six seconds left.
?Okay, that was over fast!? Kirk says as Scott simply walks out of his boat and up the dock. ?So the Purple Parrots made it up here the fastest.  Purple Parrots win a half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a moment. ?The Blue Barracudas can catch up in the next Temple Game, it?s worth a half Pendant. Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec continues:
?After landing on the shores of Russia, Rurik traveled much further inland to form the Kievan Rus empire.  Before you stands a thick Russian forest.  When Kirk gives the signal, put your wooden sword behind your head and make your way through the forest.  Whenever you come to two trees, you must find a way to maneuver between or around them, keeping your sword behind your head and both of your hands on it.
?The first player to exit the Russian forest? or the player that?s closest to the end after 60 seconds wins.?
?Okay, so let?s get them going through that forest,? Kirk says as Marissa and Alexandrea put their wooden swords behind their heads. ?Let?s set the clock for 60 seconds.? The clock appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Marissa and Lex try to search for different paths through their respective forests.  Lex has a slight lead through most of the game, but near the end, she lets go of her sword, which causes enough delay for Marissa to take the lead and leave the forest with a healthy 28 seconds on the clock.
?Okay, I think that?s the end of the game,? Kirk says, running over to declare a winner. ?Well, Purple Parrots dropped her sword, so that let the Blue Barracudas pull ahead.  Blue Barracudas win the other half Pendant of Life!? The audience applauds for a second. ?So it all comes down to this last game, it?s worth a full Pendant, and whoever wins it goes to the Temple.  Olmec, tell us about it.?

Olmec narrates:
?Rurik expanded Kievan Rus by conquering new areas and incorporating them into his empire.  On the wall before you are the names of four major cities that were located in the Kievan Rus empire: Novgorod, Yaroslavl, Kiev, and Moscow.  When Kirk gives the signal, load the slingshot and fire a ball, and your partner will catch the ball and stick it on the first city.  Once you?ve covered a city, it means it has been added to the empire, and you can climb up and try to add the next city into the empire.
?The first team to incorporate all four cities into the empire? or the team that?s built the largest empire in 60 seconds? wins.?
?This is for the Temple,? Kirk explains. ?Whoever wins goes to the Temple, if it?s a tie, it goes to a tiebreaker.  Let?s put those 60 seconds on the clock.? The clock then appears onscreen. ?On your mark, get set, GO!?
Marissa and Lex fire the first balls at their partners, and it doesn?t take them very long for either team to cover Novgorod; each team has their first target covered within the first ten seconds of the game.  Joe covers Yaroslavl with 38 seconds left, but Scott gets it only two seconds later, with 36 seconds left.  The Blue Barracudas cover their third target, Kiev, with 19 seconds left, but with 14 seconds left, the Purple Parrots catch up again.  However, that?s the last point scored before a pattern of ceiling spotlights flash, indicating that the time limit for the third Temple Game is up.
?Okay,? Kirk says, running onscreen. ?So the Blue Barracudas and the Purple Parrots each got three, so that?s a tie.  Bring out the tiebreaker podiums!?

?Okay, just stand behind there, Blue over there, Purple over there,? Kirk says, and the players follow Kirk?s gestures and stand behind the pedestals. ?Here?s the tiebreaker rules.  In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question.  If you think you know the answer, hit the gong in front of you.  You?ll have three seconds and I must accept your first response.  If you?re right, you and your partner will be going to the Temple, but if you?re wrong or you run out of time, I'll give the other team a chance.  All clear?"
The players nod in response.
"Okay, Olmec!" Kirk shouts. "What is your final question??

Olmec asks:
?Which of these groups was, like Rurik, also from Scandinavia: The Mongols, The Vikings???
The Blue Barracudas hit the gong first and answer in unison: ?The Vikings.?
?That? is? correct,? Olmec replies, and Marissa lets out a squeal of excitement before hugging Scott for half a second.
?Olmec?s made his decision!? Kirk announces. ?The Blue Barracudas are goin? to the Temple!? Scott holds both hands over his head, and Marissa jumps up to high-ten him, but when she lands on the floor she almost falls backward if not for Joe helping her up. ?Careful, almost fell!? Kirk laughs. ?The Purple Parrots gave it an awesome effort too, it was a tough match.  But they?re not going away empty-handed, they get a great gift and here?s what it is.? Joe and Lex will each be receiving a copy of the Kingdom Hearts II PlayStation 2 game.
Kirk is now standing behind the tiebreaker podium with his hands on Scott and Marissa?s shoulders. ?We?ll see if these guys can make it through Olmec?s Temple and retrieve that Iron Helmet of Rurik,? he says, ?right after this!? The camera races across the set and zooms in on the Iron Helmet in the Crystal Cave before fading to commercial.

Rediscovery EP: The Iron Helmet of Rurik
Kirk stands in front of the Temple's stairs with his hands on Scott and Marissa's shoulders. "Welcome back to Legends," he says. "You two have proven yourselves worthy and earned the right to enter the Temple.  But before you go, Olmec?s gonna give you some information to help you retrieve the Iron Helmet of Rurik."
Olmec begins to give the rundown:
?You could start by climbing through the Crevasse and climbing down into the Mine Shaft.  Throw enough rocks into the bucket to lift the slab, then race into the Crystal Cave, where you can grab the Iron Helmet of Rurik.  Pull down the correct icicle, and you could choose to go up into the Dragon?s Lair, or into the Junction of the Secret Shafts.  If you escape, you might have a chance to enter the Switch Inferno.  Hit the right actuator to go upstairs, or plow through the wall and into the Dungeon.
?There, climb up the Pharaoh?s Secret Passage into the Dark Overlook, and correctly place all three torches to open the door to the SHRIIIIIIIiine of the Silver Monkey! Assemble the statue, and you may be headed for the Knights? Barracks.  Place the sword in the correct sheath, but be careful? one of the suits of armor could be possessed by the spirit of a Temple Guard! If they grab you, you'll have to give up a Pendant of Life! Next, race up to the Laser Light Room, find the right combination to unleash the power of the laser, and run across the Bridge.  Then, pass through the Room of the Temple Gongs, race down the stairs and back through the Temple Gate.  The choices are yours and yours alone.? Olmec pauses for a second here. "You won 1 ? Pendants in the Temple Games.  Who's going first??
"I am," Scott answers.
"Very well, Scott," replies Olmec as Kirk hands out the Pendants of Life. "When Kirk gives the signal, you'll race through the gates into the Temple and make your way towards the Iron Helmet.  Hidden inside the Temple are three shafts that let out in the Junction of the Secret Shafts, as well as Temple Guards assigned to protect three specific rooms.  You can trade your Pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you're caught without a Pendant, you'll be taken out of the Temple? and then it'll be Marissa's turn to enter and try her luck.  Hidden inside the Temple is the other half of your Pendant.  If you can find it and you're carrying the other half, you will get an extra life.  If you can reach the Iron Helmet of Rurik, all the doors of the Temple will unlock, and the Temple Guards will vanish.  Return through the gates with the Helmet in three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded? and here's how:"
?   First, they?re both going to get XBOX 360 game packages, complete with two new games.
?   If they can grab the Helmet in three minutes, they?ll each get a $1,000 Toys ?R? Us gift card.
?   If they can bring the Iron Helmet out of the Temple before three minutes is up, they?ll both be going to Quebec City!  They?ll be staying for three days at Delta Quebec, with an indoor exercise room, an outdoor heated pool and an underground mall and they?ll be there during the Carnaval de Qu?bec.  Delta Quebec, for a prize package totaling $12,636!

"All right, Quebec, let?s get ?em there!" Kirk says, excited. "Now Scott, maybe you could tell us your strategy, and how you think you're gonna get to the Helmet of Richard the Lion Heart."
"Well," he says, "we?re just gonna go down, go right through, grab it and come out.  And if that doesn?t work, we?ll try that center room."
"Well let's see if that gets you that trip," Kirk says. "Put your mouthpieces in.  Lower the gate, Olmec!"
Olmec moans as he lowers the gate.
"Set the clock for three minutes." The clock then appears onscreen. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

?There they go, the blazin? Blue Barracudas!? Kirk says as Scott runs up the stairs and slides belly-down into the Crevasse.  He tries the upper crawl tube, and then the lower one, but neither one opens and he meets the first TEMPLE GUARD!
?Oh! Temple Guard already!? Kirk comments as Scott hands over his Pendant of Life. ?Might be a good thing, get ?em outta the way quick and you?ll have no problem later on!? With 2:43 remaining, Scott climbs up into the Room of Temple Gongs, hits the gong furthest right on camera, and it lights up blue and the door into the Bridge opens.  He rushes onward, hits the actuator for the door into the Laser Light Room and moves on. (2:27) Scott aligns the sections of the metallic column in a fair amount of time, and then the dome emits a laser beam, which opens at least the door into the Dragon?s Lair.  He jumps down the ladder and runs to the front of the room to grab the dragon horns but is stopped by the second TEMPLE GUARD!
?Another Temple Guard! He doesn?t have any Pendants!? Kirk remarks, sending Marissa up into the Temple.  When she passes through the Temple Gate, she has 2:11 left and a half Pendant around her wrist.  She starts in the Crevasse, immediately heads up into the Room of Temple Gongs and proceeds across the Bridge.
?Oh, she passes up the half Pendant!? Kirk shouts as Marissa heads up the stairs into the Laser Light Room. (1:50) She goes back, looks around for the other half of her Pendant, but doesn?t think to look at the door actuator, which it happens to be in.  After a few seconds of cluelessly looking around, she moves on.
?Oh, she went back, she couldn?t find it, might come back to haunt her!? Kirk says as Marissa enters the Dragon?s Lair with 1:38 remaining.  She grabs all four horns from the front of the room in one sweep and places them in the dragon?s head hanging around the door leading upward.  Once all the horns are in the head, a roar is heard, the mystic pattern on the walls glows a bright violet and the door leading into the Knights? Barracks opens. (1:21) She crawls through, grabs the sword, and sticks it in the middle sheath.  However, the suit of armor?s gauntlets grab her and a voice bellows ?GOT YOU!?? the armor?s possessed by a TEMPLE SPIRIT!
?OH!? Kirk says when Marissa is grabbed with 1:15 remaining.  A frustrated-looking Scott stands next to him. ?Oh, that?s it? she doesn?t have the other half Pendant, it was on the Troubled Bridge! It was on the Troubled Bridge and? oh, but these guys both gave it a great effort.  And they get the XBOX 360s, and we gotta get outta here.  See ya again next time for another Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!? Various rooms of the Temple are shown, each from several different angles, as the credits roll rather slowly.

Temple Run Summary
Episode 35px]

Name of Artifact: The Iron Helmet of Rurik
Season: 2
Layout: 2 (6 overall)
Result: Triple seizure
Time Remaining: 1:15
Team: Blue Barracudas
Pendants Won: 1.5
Location of Artifact: The Crystal Cave

The outcome of this Temple Run could have easily been avoided if not for two or three mistakes.  First, the team's strategy was to just take the direct path across the bottom.  Not only should they have known better by now, but Scott ran into his first Temple Guard in the Crevasse and had to go up.  He was taken out in the Dragon's Lair with 2:13 remaining.

Marissa also was partly responsible for the Temple Run being ended early.  She bypassed the half Pendant on the Bridge, but still couldn't find it when she went back for it.  The consequence came not too long after that? she was caught in the Knights' Barracks with a whole 1:15 on the clock.  Now, the Temple Spirit in the Knights' Barracks was in the suit of armor that would open the door, so it was impossible to avoid.  However, the Dragon's Lair Temple Guard may or may not have been avoidable; due to an odd choice of camera angles, it isn't at all clear whether the Laser Light Room-Knights' Barracks door opened.

Trivia and Records:
This is the first of only three episodes in The Rediscovery's history where a Temple Spirit ends the game.  Also, when Kirk asks the team about their strategy in the Temple Run, he accidentally calls the artifact the "Helmet of Richard the Lion Heart" (considering the similarity of the artifacts, it's a fairly understandable slip-up, but it seems odd if one takes into account that the two episodes were taped on different days).
