Episode 1: The Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer

*the camera zooms in on an ancient lush jungle, the palms are moving away as an elephant is heard*

*all the palms are gone, showing Olmec*

Olmec: Legends of the Hidden Temple. With your guide? Kirk Fogg!

*Kirk is shown slidding down a zipline & jumping off into the usual area*

Kirk: Thank you everyone. Thank you Olmec. Welcome to Legends of the Hidden Temple. The rooms are The rooms are filled with lost treasures protected by mysterious Mayan temple guards. Only Olmec knows the legend behind each of the treasures in his temple. Which one are we going to hear about today?

Olmec: The Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer.

Kirk: The Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer! Well, one of these six teams will have the chance to retrieve the Parchment. Will it be *camera zooms into each team as they cheer & the usual* The Red Jaguars? The Blue Barracudas? The Green Monkeys? The Orange Iguanas? The Purple Parrots? Or the Silver Snakes? They?re going to have to pass some tough mental and physical tests, and in the end, only one team will have the right to enter Olmec?s temple, but first they have to cross the moat, and Olmec will tell us how they?ll have to do it today.

Olmec: Each team has an oversized Indian turban in the water. On go, when both players wrap around the turban, it will slowly start to move across the Moat. If you fall, both you & your partner will have to go back to the start & get on the turban again. The first for teams to get across & ring the gong will move onto the next round.

Kirk: Alright, teams are you ready?!

*the teams cheer*

Kirk: Olmec, are you ready?!

Olmec: Let?s rock!

Kirk: On your marks? get set? GO!!!!!

*all teams get on the turban as it starts to bob & spin*

*all the teams are moving at about the same rate, when the Orange Iguanas fall off*

*everyone else is going across steadily*

*Purple Parrots get off first & ring the gong*

*all the other four teams get off*

*Red Jaguars bang the gong next, followed by Green Monkeys & Blue Barracudas, then Silver Snakes shortly*

Kirk: Wow, I?m sure that was harder than expected! The Purple Parrots blazed through the Moat, & will be going to the Steps of Knowledge! Along with the Green Monkeys! The Blue Barracudas! & The Red Jaguars! Orange Iguanas & Silver Snakes made a great effort, & won?t be going away empty handed. Olmec, tell them their prize.

*Olmec explains the prize*

*scene changes to a dry set of four teams on the top of the Steps of Knowledge*

Kirk: As the quest continues, it?s now time for Olmec to tell us about the Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer. Bur before we get started, pay attention, because your knowledge of the legend can bring you a step closer to Olmec?s Temple.

Olmec: After Edward VI died in 1553, one of the most notorious and vicious rulers came as the heir of the throne, Mary I, known today as Bloody Mary. Mary was a strong Catholic, and burned approximately 300 Protestants at the stake. One of the most infamous being Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer.

Mary I: Archbishop Cranmer, as Queen of England, I hereby command you to convert from Protestantism to Catholicism.

Cranmer: NEVER!

Olmec: For these actions, Cranmer was brought to a trial, where he wrote down a recant and announced it publicly.

Mary: Archbishop, this recant is sweet, but not even God will forgive you for misleading his souls prior to this! Guards, let him be burned at the stake!!!

Olmec: Cranmer, in disgust, made one last bold move before he was about to die. He dipped his right hand into the fire, and cried?

Cranmer: This hand signed the paper when I recanted. So this should be the first to suffer!?

Olmec: And with that, Archbishop Cranmer died. The recanted parchment mysteriously made it?s way to the Temple! Your quest is to retrieve The Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer & bring it back here!

Kirk: Thank you Olmec, but can you tell us where The Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer is?

Olmec: The Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer could be found in The Room of the Mandarin Hand!

Kirk: OK. Teams: you are standing on the Steps of Knowledge. In a minute, Olmec will ask you a question about today?s legend. If you think you know the answer, stomp down on the ancient marking in front of you. Go ahead, stomp on it!

*Red Jaguars hit the step*

Kirk: OK, Red Jaguars, since you rang in first, you would be able to answer. If you?re right, you?ll move down to the next level. If you?re wrong or run out of time, I?m going to give the other teams a chance to answer. The first two teams to make it to the bottom level *Kirk runs down there* will be one step closer to Olmec?s Temple. Olmec, we are now ready for the first question.

Olmec: Was Cranmer the Archbishop of: London, Canterbury, or Paris?

*Blue Barracudas ring in*

Blue Barracudas: Canterbury!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Blue Barracudas step down*

Olmec: Was Mary I the successor of: Edward VI, Henry VIII, or Elizabeth I?

*Green Monkeys ring in*

Green Monkeys: Elizabeth I!

Olmec: Incorrect!

Blue Barracudas: Edward VI!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Blue Barracudas move down one step*

Kirk: One more correct answer & The Blue Barracudas will move onto the Temple Games.

Olmec: Was Mary I known as: Mary Mary Quite Contrary, Scary Mary, or Bloody Mary?

*Blue Barracudas ring in & beat out all the teams narrowly*

Blue Barracudas: Bloody Mary!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Blue Barracudas hug & move down to the bottom step*

Kirk: Nice job, Blue Barracudas. You will be moving on to the Temple Games. Red Jaguars, Green Monkeys, & Purple Parrots still have a chance!

Olmec: Mary I was the daughter or Catherine of Aragon and: Henry IV, Henry VI, or Henry VIII?

*Purple Parrots ring in*

Purple Parrots: Henry VIII!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Purple Parrots step down*

Olmec: Did Mary I believe in: Catholicism, Protestantism, or Calvinism?

*Green Monkeys ring in*

Green Monkeys: Catholicism!

Olmec: That is correct!

*Green Monkeys move down*

Olmec: Did Archbishop Cranmre sign the recant with: his right hand, his left hand, or with his mouth?

*Red Jaguars ring in*

Red Jaguars: Left hand!

Olmec: Incorrect!

*Purple Parrots ring in*

Kirk: One more correct answer & Purple Parrots will move onto the Temple Games.

*Purple Parrots jump down to the bottom step*

Kirk: Green Monkeys. Red Jaguars, come on down here! You guys gave it a good effort, but came up short, but you won?t be going home empty handed. Here?s what you guys win. *Olmec explains prize*

Kirk: *only Blue Barracudas & Purple Parrots are present* These two teams will be going head to head in the Temple Games, to fight to enter Olmec?s Temple, right after this!

*commercial break*

[Olmec]

Kirk: Welcome back to Legends. Now the glory goes to the fastest and the strongest. But before we get started, let?s find out a little about our teams. On the Blue Barracudas, we have Derek, he plays football, basketball, & runs track! His partner is Kim, she likes to play soccer & go kayaking! Let?s give it up for the Blue Barracudas! However, on the Purple Parrots, we have Jake, who plays lacrosse, soccer, & football. Oh, maybe you guys can get a little one on one going on. And we also have Sam, & she likes to play soccer, softball, & tennis. Let?s here it for the Purple Parrots! Now, guys get ready for the first Temple Game, girls get ready for the second. Okay, go get ready for the Temple Games, I?m going to explain what?s gonna happen. Teams are competing in temple games to win: Pendants of Life. *shows two pendants* They?re going to need those pendants to protect themselves from the dreaded temple guards as they make their way through the temple. There are three temple games. Olmec, tell us about temple game number one.

Olmec: When being trialed as a heretic, Archbishop Cranmer signed a recant, saying that he takes back everything he has preached about Protestantism. On go, you will jump on the trampolines & pull yourself up the tower. Once you get to the top, sign the parchment as ?Archbishop Thomas Cranmer?, & make your way back down. The first person to sign the parchment & make his way back down, or the person who gets the furthest along in 60 seconds wins.

Kirk: Ooh, this will be a quest to sign the recant! On your marks? get set? GO!

*Derek & Jake both jump up & try to pull themselves up*

*Derek gets through the first tunnel, then Jake comes right after*

*they are both neck in neck, then Derek gets to the top with :43 seconds left & starts to sign the paper*

*Jake gets up with :41 & they are neck in neck*

*both start to go down at the same time*

*both are going down through the bottom, but Derek comes out first with :14 seconds left*

Kirk: OHHHHHHHHHHH, that was close, but the Blue Barracudas managed to come out victorious with ? Pendant of Life! Don?t worry Jake, your team can catch up next game, Olmec, tell us about it!

Olmec: Mary I was a serious follower of Catholicism, & her ancestor, Edward VI had locked them all away in the dungeons. Before each of you stand five locked doors. You have a ring of six keys in your hand. On go, run up to the first door, & try a key. Once you open it, keep going & once you open the last door, wave the flag of England. The first person to wave the flag of England, or the furthest along in 60 seconds wins

Kirk: This is going to be an intense. Also, one thing Olmec forgot, is that a key CANNOT be used more than once, which should make it easier for you guys. On your marks? get set? GO!

*Kim & Sam both run to the door & are trying to get it open*

*they both try three keys, & Kim gets through on her third*

*Sam tries two more & starts to run to the door when Kim tries her second key*

*Kim?s second key gets her through, & Sam?s first key works, so they both get to the third key*

*Sam drops her keys by accident, & Kim gets through the door with her first key (30 seconds are left at this point*

*Sam tries all six of her keys, while Kim?s fourth key opens, making Kim have one more door, Sam have two (22 more seconds)*

*Kim tries a key & opens the door, & then she grabs the flag & waves it*

Kirk: Wow, that was a pretty close one. Sam dropped her keys, & Kim gained her lead, meaning that the Blue Barracudas win another ? Pendant of Life! That gives the Blue Barracudas 1 Pendant, the Purple Parrots 0, but the final Temple Game is for a whole Pendant of Life. Give it to us, Olmec!

Olmec: Archbishop Cranmer stuck his right hand into the fire, because he regretted signing the recant. Now you will be putting hands into the fire. One player is hanging in the air, & their partner is on the ground. On go, the player on the ground will toss a hand up to their partner. The partner will zoom across the line & try to drop the hand into one of the three fires. The first team to get one hand in each of the three fires, or the team with the most hands in fires wins.

Kirk: Burn baby burn! On your marks? get set? GO!

*Derek (is really tall) & Jake (is really short) toss up the first hand (well, Derek really just hands it off)*

*Kim swings, followed by Sam*

*Sam gets her hand in the first fire pit with :49 left, but Kim?s bounces out*

*Sam swings back & Jake tosses a hand to her (:44 seconds left)*

*Kim comes back, Derek throws a hand, but she drops the hand on her way to the fire*

*Sam gets another hand into another fire pit with :31 left*

*both of them come back & they both drop their hands*

*they come back again & get their hands*

*Kim throws hers early & it misses*

*Sam throws hers & it lands in the final fire pit with :18 left*

Kirk: That?s it, stop the clock! Purple Parrots brought it back when they needed it, winning the full Pendant of Life! That gives each team 1 Pendant of Life. Bring out the Tiebreaker Podium!

*they roll it out & they get on their respective sides*

Kirk: Now, Olmec will ask a question, & the first team to buzz in has a chance to answer it. If you?re wrong, I?ll give the other team a chance to answer. This is for the Temple. Olmec, give us the question.

Olmec: Archbishop Cranmer?s first name was: Travis, Thomas, or Timot-

*Kim buzzes in & narrowly beats out Jake*

Kim: Thomas??

Olmec: That is? correct!

*Kim hugs Derek & the teams shake hands*

Kirk: Good job Blue Barracudas, you?ll go into the Temple! Purple Parrots, great sportsmanship! You guys were so close, I really wish I could send all four of you to the Temple, but we can?t. Olmec, tell them their prize.

*Olmec explains the prize*

Kirk: *only Blue Barracudas are present* We're gonna see if the Blue Barracudas can retrieve the Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer, and we're gonna do it right after this!

*commercial break*

[Olmec]

Kirk: Welcome back. Derek & Kim have proven themselves worthy and have earned themselves the right to enter Olmec?s temple. But before we get started, Olmec, can you give the Purple Parrots any clues about your Temple & how to retrieve the Recanted Parchment?

Olmec: You could start off by running up into the Crypt! Pull the book from the skeleton, & you could pass into the Intersection of Tunnels! Crawl through the series of tunnels, & you could make your way up into the Physician?s Lair! Calibrate the scale to the right mark, & a door might open, leading you into the Room of the Mandarin Hand! Curl the fingers around the globe, & you could go into the Room of the Ancient Warriors! Place yourself into the correct suit of armor, & you could go into the Shriiiiine of the Silver Monkey. Assemble the statue & make your way into the Viper?s Nest! Pull the snakes from the jars & climb down into the Mountaineer?s Den! Repel down the rock wall & bust through the wall into the Tomb of the Ancient Kings. Open the slab & find the key leading up, or you could go into the Arachnid?s Territory! Spin the correct spider around the giant web, & a door might open into the Laser Light Room! Unleash the power of the special white laser, & crawl back through the Intersection of Tunnels. Crawl into the Reef & maneuver yourself through the aquatic paradise & back through the Temple Gate! The choices are yours & yours alone! You won two pendants into the Temple. Who is going first?

Kim: I am!

Olmec: Very well, Kim! When Kirk gives the signal, you?ll race through the gate into the temple and make your way towards the Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer. Hidden inside the temple are temple guards assigned to protect three specific rooms. You can trade your pendant for an extra life and go on, but if you?re caught without a pendant, you?ll be taken out of the temple and it will be Derek?s turn to try his luck. Hidden inside the Temple is are two ? Pendants of Life. If you find them, combine them & you will get an extra life. If you can reach the artifact, all the doors in the temple will instantly unlock, and the temple guards will vanish. Return through the gates with the artifact within three minutes, and you will both be handsomely rewarded. And here?s how! *Olmec explains three prizes*

Kirk: Kim, you ready?

Kim: Yeah, I?m nervous but I think our chances are high.

Kirk: You heard her. Let?s put three minutes on the clock! Olmec, lower the gate!

*the gate lowers & Olmec makes his usual groaning noises*

Kim: On your marks? get set? GO!

*Kim races up into the Crypt & she enters it with 2:53 left*

*she tries all three books & runs into the Intersection of Tunnels with 2:47 left*

*she finds a tunnel that goes straight across to the door into the Physician?s Lair*

*she enters the Physician?s Lair with 2:39 left*

*before she enters, she signals a ? Pendant to Derek (which is on the actuator to the Physician?s Lair*

*she runs up & a Temple Guard comes out with 2:32 left

*she gives him the Pendant & begins to calibrate the scale*

*the scale calibrates & a door into the Room of the Ancient Warriors opens*

*she runs into it with 2:17 left*

*she tries the first suit of armor*

*she goes for the second & the third, but on the third, the right handle has the other ? Pendant of Life*

*she signals it & heads into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey with 1:57 left*

*Kim grabs the base & the middle & puts them on (but the middle is backwards)*

*she tries to jam the head down, but realizes the middle is backwards, so she twists it around & pushes the head down*

*all three doors open, but she heads down into the Tomb of the Ancient Kings with 1:29 left*

*Kim descends down & tries to bust through the wall, but it doesn?t go down*

*Derek shouts to Kim, telling her to go into the coffin*

*she finds the key & opens the door into the Arachnid?s Territory with 1:18 left*

*Kim grabs the first of three spiders & starts to crawl around the web*

*she gets the spider around the whole way & the door in the Laser Light room opens*

*she goes into the Laser Light Room with 1:00 left*

*Kim pulls down the first panel, but a Temple Guard takes her out with :58 left*

*Derek sprints up into the Crypt & goes through the tunnel, grabbing the first ? Pendant with :50 left*

*he goes up through the Physician?s Lair & grabs the other ? Pendant from the Room of the Ancient Warriors with :43 left*

*he goes into the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, then goes down into the Tomb of the Ancient Kings*

*he quickly jumps through the door into the Arachnid?s Territory, & goes into the Laser Light Room with :30 left*

*he tries two more panels & the white light is shown, so he quickly ascends into the Room of the Mandarin Hand, grabbing the Recanted Parchment with :26 left*

*Derek goes into the Intersection of Tunnels & finds a tunnel that slides down into the Reef*

*he makes his way through the Reef (the third Temple Guard is shown) & comes through the Temple Gates with :11 left*

Kirk: THEY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They retried the Recanted Parchment of Archbishop Cranmer! Great effort guys, you won all three prizes! I can?t believe it! That was amazing! We gotta go, but I don?t wanna. We?ll see you next time on Legends of the Hidden Temple! Buh-bye!

Temple Run Summary: What a great choice for a first episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple: The Next Encounter. Derek & Kim came in a close third in the Moat, first for the Steps of Knowledge, & lost the third Temple Game, making a 1 Pendant tie. Kim beat out Jake (the boy on the Purple Parrots) for the tiebreaker, which won it for their team. In the Temple, Kim made a pretty good time, pointing out both 1/2 Pendants (one on the actuator to the Physician's Lair, the other on the right handle or the third suti of armor in the Room of the Ancient Warriors). She got taken out one room away with :58 left on the clock. It seemed like there would be no hope, but then came Derek. Kirk said he played football, basketball, & ran track. I am definitely not surprised that he runs track, & I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of the fasted sprinters. Derek made quick time through each room, grabbing the 1/2 Pendants, making 1 Pendant. Luckily, he didn't need them. He tried two more panels in the Laser Light Room, then quickly ascended into the Room of the Mandarin Hand, grabbing the Recanted Parchment with :26 left. Then he slid down from the Intersection of Tunnels & into the Reef, making a victory with :11 left. This was a great episode all around.

Sidenotes: This is the first victory in which the artifact is in the center room & the player enters it from the bottom. Also, when Derek is climbing through the Reef, you can see a Temple Guard.

EDITTED SIDENOTE: And the number of the day is... 1!!!!! This is season ONE, layout ONE, episode ONE, they went to the Temple with ONE Pendant, & they won with 11 (which is two ONEs) seconds left!

I like how you don't actually use the words "The Next Encounter" within the show, but use it like a title to distinguish the series from the original one.  Did I give you that idea (since I never write "The Rediscovery" as something anyone says within the show?)

Wow, these guys were both great players!

One thing that's missing, Olmec doesn't tell the Purple Parrots that they're correct on the second question, they just move down on their own.

Other than that, it's an incredible win.  Both guys were fast, as shown by Derek's escape and how much time was left when Kim got taken out.  Great work!

He turns to talk to the brown-haired boy on the Blue Barracudas. ?On the Blue Barracudas we have Mandy.  Tell me how old are you??
?Fourteen,? she replies, barely having to look up to talk to Kirk.
?And now you like reading,? says Kirk, reading off of an index card, ?your favorite book right now is Great Expectations, but tell me about how you almost beat your school?s 50-yard dash speed record.?
?Well,? Mandy explains, ?we had Field Day last May last year, and one of the events was the 50-yard dash, I finished first, and they said I tied the school record.?
?And what was the time on that?? Kirk asks.
?6.6 seconds,? Mandy replies.

?but that guy Derek was probably faster than Steve (The Keys to the Alhambra,) Robbie, Gator and Zac!

You know, it's not too uncommon thou.  I'ts not just your episodes.  I think I made Ryan a little fast in "The Right Nostril of the Great Sphinx." And in "Monopoly's Lost tokens" by Ndanyi, it took the follow-up runner 13 seconds to assemble the monkey, enter the bottom corner room and ride the elevator up.
